TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is seeking information about visa options and associated costs as a foreign parent of a Thai newborn. They initially entered Thailand on a single entry NON-O visa, which they extended for 60 days due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They were informed that they could potentially apply for a one-year visa based on being a parent. Key points discussed include three extension options: 1. A one-year extension for parents of a half-Thai child, requiring legal parental rights and a minimum bank balance of 400,000 baht. 2. A 60-day family visit extension based on having a half-Thai child, which does not need legal parental rights or financial proof. 3. A 60-day COVID-related extension. All extensions typically cost 1,900 baht. Comments also mention the necessity of obtaining parental rights through family court if not married to the child’s mother.

@Ol**
you already HAVE a visa <- the non-O single entry you came in on and got stamped in for 90 days with,

SO if you can get enough extensions to get thru family court, get granted parental rights, meet the proof of funds(400k baht in a thai bank account in your name) you could apply for a yearly extension based on supporting your thai child for 1900baht.

Ok that’s great thanks

@Olly *******
then you need to buy time to get THRU the family court process

That means either the 60 day visit thai family extension OR the 60 day covid extension

Personally I would get the covid extension FIRST (and keep the thai family one in case they don't extend the covid program) and

Then go with your child's mother to the family court and talk to them about filing for uncontested parental rights.

The fastest I've seen it get thru court (which is really mostly waiting for your hearing, the interviews, the verdict, etc) is 4 months. SO you need to get after it

As Tod hinted at. You have zero parental rights. Legally marry the mother and all parental rights will be auto granted.

that's rubbish, you need to be married at time of birth for parental rights to be granted automatically. Marrying after means nothing

FYI - in Chiang Mai I just did this. I did NOT need to go to family court. I just needed a letter from the government building in Mae Rim that stayed I was the father. I had to bring 2 witnesses other then the mother with me. Also needed a resident certificate, pics and the usual copies.

And....

IF the child is born out of wedlock remember that 100% of the parental rights is the mother's and while the father can get a Non-O visa from a thai consulate in their country and a 60 day visit thai family extension with just their name on the birth certificate, unless they go thru family court or the child is old enough to pick out the father at the amphur and answer questions (usually between 6 and 8 y/o) they're not gonna get a year extension based on raising a half thai child

As

replied earlier...

okay, you have 3 extension options available to you...

1 - a year extension based on raising a half thai child (if the child was born out of wedlock you need to have been granted legal parental rights thru family court or the local Amphur) you also need 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only...

2 - a 60 day visit thai family extension based on having a half thai child (this doesn't require proof of legal parental rights or any financial requirements)..

BUT YOU SAID YOU ALREADY HAVE USED THIS FAMILY VISIT EXTENSION...

3 - a 60 day unable to travel due to covid 19 extension...

ALL extensions inside the country are 1900baht no matter the length of time they're issued for.

Go to your immigration office and ask what the requirements are for the extension you're wanting to get.

I will add one more...
