What are the requirements for a Non-O Retirement Visa extension in Thailand, especially in Krabi?

Question about Non-O Retirement Extension in Thailand 🙏

Hi everyone,

I’m on a Non-O Retirement Visa (issued in Vietnam) and getting ready for my 1-year extension at Immigration Krabi.

I keep hearing different information, so I want to double-check a few things.

As far as I know, for the Non-O extension you only need:

✔️ 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account (seasoned 2 months)

✔️ Bank letter (same day)

✔️ Updated bank book

✔️ Passport + copies

✔️ TM7 form

✔️ TM30

✔️ Rental contract (valid on the day of extension)

✔️ ID card + house book copy from landlord

✔️ Fee 1,900 THB

So my questions are:

👉 1. Do I need any health insurance for the Non-O extension?

From what I understand, insurance is only required for the Non-OA visa.

👉 2. Do I need a 1-year rental contract?

My contract is valid but not for a full year — is that OK for the extension?

If anyone has recent experience in Krabi or anywhere in Thailand with the Non-O Retirement extension, your feedback would really help.

Thank you so much! 🙏😊

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is preparing to apply for a 1-year extension of their Non-O Retirement Visa in Krabi and seeks confirmation on specific requirements. They list what they believe are necessary documents and ask if health insurance and a long-term rental contract are mandatory. Community responses confirm that health insurance is not required for Non-O extensions, and the necessity of a 1-year rental contract may vary by immigration office.

Most people agree, you need to go to the immigration office and ask for the list; it varies from province to province.

In Hua Hin I got this list yesterday

I always thought the hand drawn map was only for marriage extensions not retirement??

Ian Carman: Each office has its own rules, so it's always best to check.

@Ian *******
Krabi have asked for this on each of my retirement non-o extensions. They even came to visit a week later.

For the purpose of a Non-O extension , insurance not required
Jesper *******
1) no need proof of insurance but sign up one for your own good

2) I did my extension with a 6mth lease (CW bkk)

The letter/bank statements can be 7days old but the bank book have to be updated to same day as application

CW bkk accepts my Google map printout of my address (same as TM30) u also need recent photo(for tm7) and signed everything in blue pen hope this helps

@Jesper ******
What is meant by updated bank book? Do I have to visit the bank office on the same day that I apply for an extension?
Jesper *******
@Wolfman *****
yes what i usually do is make a small withdrawal (100baht) and updated the bank book at one of those updating machine and make copy all pages of the bank book before visiting the immigration office
Lyndon ************
@Wolfman *****
the balance in your bank book is dated today. Yes, same day, go before. Btw in Krabi they take your photo electronically, no hard copy needed.

Bank letter same day ???

Go to the retirement desk at the Krabi immigration office and ask them. More than likely they have a preprinted list (in English) of what you will need for your extension. Then return on the day you plan to actually do your extension, with all of your affairs in order.

A map from the immigration office to where you live, many offices want this to be hand drawn not from Google. You'll also need at least 3 months of bank statements, 12 months for future extensions

@John *********
what’s the 3 months of bank statements actually for… is it to reflect to an applicant has
*****
0 baht equivalent sitting in a foreign account for that period? Or do do they actually want you to show you have built up
*****
0 B over 3 months ( like when applying for a loan) or simply want to see my groceries and fuel costs? 😎
John **********
@Sasha **********
it's to show you have the money required for the extension of stay in your thai bank account for the full two calendar months needed in order to apply for the extension of stay
Sasha ***********
@John *********
is it 2 months or 3 months? And… if you have $
*****
sitting in your account on Jan 2, then you leave it in there until Apr 2, then you print off 3 monthly statements reflecting $
*****
has sat in there doing nothing for 3 months, is this correct?
John **********
@Sasha **********
the money needs to be in a Thai bank so it's baht that matters, not dollars. It will sit there a lot longer than that, the rules say it has to be there 2 months before, 3 months after and can't go below 400k at any point in the year. Your money doesn't do nothing but interest rates in Thailand aren't great.

@John *********
yes 2 month and after extensions 3 more months.

it cant be more than 2 because the first non-o have only 3 months and you cant get a bank account with non-o.

And it has to be a international transfer, i made it by using wise, in euro and let wise change it, its more expensive but a sure transfer for immigration.
Greg ***********
@Burkhard *******
"And it has to be a international transfer, i made it by using wise, in euro and let wise change it, its more expensive but a sure transfer for immigration." . . . . . no way, not needed at all. And please be aware: WISE transfers now are showing as being made inside Thailand. . . . WISE discontinued making sure a transfer from a foreign account gets coded as coming from abroad in the recipient's Thai bankbook. It wil show as an inner-Thailand transfer (from the Kasikorn bank WISE is using for the last step) . .check your bankbook and you will see that the transfer came from within Thailand. . . .but don't worry, as there is no requirement to prove it came from abroad when you do the extension based on retirement out of a former Non-O visa which you obtained abroad
Greg ***********
@Burkhard *******
you can definitely get a bank account opened on a Non-Imm-O Visa type. If the bank's staff is unable or unwilling, use the service of an agent. . . .and for the application to the 12-months extenson based on retirement, you do NOT need a proof that the money came from abroad. . . . .this proof is only needed if you apply for the initial 90-days Non-Imm-O Visa inside Thailand
Sasha ***********
@John *********
sorry… I was talking about putting together the
*****
0 B in your home country prior to applying for the non-0 visa. All good, cheers.
Jack ********
Possibly a map to your address.
Ian ********
Do you need bank statements as well?
Stuart ***********
Yes, you need bank statements, updated bank book and a letter.
Brandon ************
1) no insurance needed

2) completely depends on the Krabi immigration policy. Many offices don't even require a lease as part of the extension paperwork. But each immigration office sets their own policies. For 1-year extensions it's always best to go to the immigration ahead of time and ask them for their handout of requirements, as sometimes they even change from year to year.
