I have a little more than a year on my PE visa and am considering the extension (its grandfathered so I get the old prices)

But since I got this visa I have come down with a rare blood disease that requires lifelong medical attention and I am wondering what the deal is with a medical visa and would it apply to my situation.

What are the medical visa requirements?

e.g. criteria, money in the bank etc..

I also qualify for retirement visa and potentially marriage visa.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is considering extending their PE visa due to a newly diagnosed blood condition requiring lifelong medical care. They inquire about the requirements for a medical visa in Thailand and mention qualifying for a retirement and potentially a marriage visa. Commenters clarify that medical visas are typically for short-term medical needs and not suitable for long-term stay, suggesting alternative options like the retirement visa or Non-O visa based on age.

A medical visa won't work for you. You can potentially get the DTV visa based on medical treatment if you regularly have to attend hospital and that hospital will write up a treatment plan signed off by one of the recognised doctors there. The Non-O based on being over 50 is easy to get and renew, less hassle than the Non-O based on marriage

Are you sure? A DTV for medical treatment? Never heard of that.

Learn something new every day ๐Ÿ™‚ the only stumbling block might be "Some consulates may require medical records to justify the need for treatment in Thailand. ", if the treatment is available elsewhere, such as the home country?

generally they want to see a treatment plan signed off by a recognised doctor at a reputable hospital

Medical extensions are for those who are unfit to travel, and are for a maximum of 90 days at a time. They are not a way to stay here long term. Maybe your best bet is the retirement extension.
