Hey everyone, I’m looking into getting an ED visa to study Thai and trying to understand how flexible it can be.
Specifically: Is it possible to do only 2 days per week (instead of 3+)?
Are there evening classes, or is it mostly mornings?
Do any schools allow some online / hybrid attendance?
If you’ve done this yourself or know good schools in Bangkok, I’d really appreciate recommendations or contacts. Thanks!
EDIT: I only prefer 2 days over 3 days because it fits my schedule better, I'm fine with many hours a day

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry about obtaining an ED visa to study Thai language posed various concerns regarding class schedules and flexibility. The individual seeks to attend classes only two days a week but is uncertain if this is permissible. Multiple comments indicated that the ED visa typically requires a more structured schedule, often mandating attendance of at least 80% of classes. Most language schools, such as Duke Language School and New Alianz, have set schedules, and some do not accommodate hybrid or online classes. Recommendations were made to directly consult schools for specifics, noting that interest in studying should be genuine to avoid issues with immigration.
I think Sandee Language school said 2 days minimum and 4 days maximum a week, it might be flexible, but as per hours of study each day, im not sure. But maybe you can ask them directly. They're located around Rama 9 area, but you can reach them by messenger. All in class though, no school that offers ED visa will accept online classes unless they're dodgy.
It sounds like your preference will be long parties until early morning, sleep until the early afternoon and force yourself to the minimum of required hours.
I was actually in the same position...I applied for the ED visa too. After it got approved, I realized it’s not as flexible as I expected. The schedule is usually fixed by the school, and more importantly, it’s not ideal if you plan to travel in and out of Thailand often. You are required to attend at least 80% of classes. In my school, 2 days a week wasn’t an option for ED visa...it has to be 4 days a week. That’s actually why I ended up switching directions just 2 weeks after I got my passport back with ED stamp. Just something to keep in mind depending on your lifestyle. Expensive lesson for me tho.
You need to look at IM or school has that information. It’s been a few years I went to school here and they changed the rules during that time.
But I learned that the stamp, name of school/department has to be correct. Otherwise they don’t accept the extension. They also extended the amount of hours I had to attend.
New Alianz language school at Samrong, when I did my ED visa.. all my classes were online study on a x2 weekly schedule
All afternoon / evening timetables from what I can remember.
But of course you have to be present in school indefinitely every 3 months to get the extension, which is only granted once IO attends the school to sign you off 👍
The ED visa is perhaps one of the least flexible visas. You sign up with a school and you attend the scheduled classes, your attendance is monitored by immigration and if you don't attend you won't get the extensions you require every 90 days.
Omer Faran seems that you have to be in a private class then. Group class doesn't work your way. It is 2 hrs a day and the schedule is submitted to MOE and immigration along with everyone participating in that class. It doesn't make sense to do it in 2 group classes for the exact same level and lessons. All classes have to be attended in person. Not online, not hybrid. You are to sign attendance list each class
