Hi all,

Question regarding Non-Immigrant ED Visa: I had one in Chiang mai back during covid, finished it, and eventually left Thailand in early 2022.

Now I'm back (In Bangkok) and am wondering if it's possible for me to get a second year of an ED visa with a school/program here. Has it been long enough, can I still take Thai language courses as my selection, will I have to advance a level because of already taken a year of the beginner course? etc. etc.

And if so, does anyone have programs in Bangkok they can recommend? Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is inquiring about the possibility of obtaining a second Non-Immigrant ED visa for studying Thai language courses in Bangkok after previously holding one during the pandemic. Community responses suggest that while it is possible to obtain a new ED visa, the user may need to provide proof of prior education and may have to enroll in a class at a higher level than beginner, depending on their previous studies. It's also recommended to check with schools regarding course options.

If you have a new passport, you can do the whole thing all over again. Otherwise, lots of schools offer you to sign up for a language other than Thai but still let you attend Thai classes.

new passport does nothing.

Everything is connected through Biometrics.

They know you're history.

it did for me and other people too. Many language schools will tell you the same information.

sorry they're wrong.

this goes for the airport, but at the immigration office they literally only look at what’s in front of them. I went there to cancel my old Ed visa because I wanted to change language schools. They told me no visa was attached to my new passport, so I got a completely new one.

the immigration office has all the same information in the system.

A visa needs to be transferred between passports, it does not automatically get moved into a new passport.

If you do manage to get another ED visa it will not be for beginner classes.

I had the initial 3 months of ED visa and left the country for an emergency and when I came back 2 years ago I tried to study at another school and I had to provide transcripts from my first school and I was told that I would start from an advanced class, not beginner due to already studying for 3 months

Congrats! You must be talented for foreign languages.

My daughter (now 21) had Thai as the first language she had learned, from 0 to 5 years old.

She is taking 1:1 lessons (400 lessons so far) and she can not make a meningful phone call in Thai language.

Her Thai courses are by an accredited Thai teacher professional (she even comes in the official uniform) : writing, reading, talking.

While, you are going into "advanced" class.

I sucked at it, but they told me that if I want that visa again they will put me in an advanced class

Should be possible, but the school is the one you need to be asking to make sure. They'll have to submit to the ministry of education for approval.
