Hello from Canada,

I am considering coming to Thailand on an ED Visa to study Thai. Google says I will need to take courses for a minimum of 15 hours / week. Could someone tell me how a typical weekly course schedule looks like? I am most interested in learning online but am open to classes if the fit is better. Also how many hours of studying are typically required, on top of the hours in class, per week? I would be most grateful for responses to these inquiries! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

Many thanks in advance!!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is considering obtaining an ED Visa to study Thai in Thailand, inquiring about the typical weekly course schedule, specifically for in-class learning, as Google suggests a minimum of 15 hours per week. Comments clarify that online classes do not qualify for the ED visa, as the visa requires attendance in a physical classroom. It is also advised to contact local schools for specific details regarding class options and fees.

Contact a few schools in the area you will live.

They are different in requirements & fees

Thanks Paul!

Online classes do not qualify for ED visa. You can do that from Canada. The point of an ED visa is that you have to be in a classroom for your class, so you need a visa for that. An online class doesn't need you in Thailand, so no visa.

Thank you ๐Ÿ™

Are you able to tell me how many hours of class per week fulfils the requirements? I've got different people telling me different things. Also can you tell me how many hours of study can be expected per week?

Many thanks ๐Ÿ™

you need to contact schools. Each school knows what the immigration office in their area accepts.

Does this mean that the required class hours differentiates depending on the region of Thailand?

@Matthew ********
it can. It can also vary even in the same region. Different schools might have different arrangements or agreements with immigration. Only the school can answer the question of how long you need to attend

Thank you, I just sent out an email to the school in my desired location.

Are you able to give me a minimum possible hours / maximum possible hours of what can be expected at different schools?

@Matthew ********
I only ever went to one school and it was 3 hours per day 5 days per week. I've heard they've since switched to 2 hours per day. That's the only experience I have
