As for renewing driving licenses, you get 2year with DTV not 5year, I guess this was expected as its a tourist visa, but I had some hopes because its 5year visa π
And for requirements, on DLT website it says certificate of residence but no, you need the same paper from IO that you needed when you got your first license (for motorbike, and car, different papers).
The officer at transportation office said, and wrote on my appointment letter that I need 1 cert and 1 copy of it. A bit confusing since i renew motorbike and car. Car they check both boxes in 1 paper?
I have never renewed a license here before, so of course obvious things for some people, but just FYI for people like me...
You also need to print out the certificate of your 1hour training, showing from phone is not enough.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Renewing a driving license in Thailand on a DTV visa typically grants a 2-year renewal rather than the expected 5 years. Key requirements include a certificate of residence from the Immigration Office, a photocopy of the driving license (both sides), and a printed certificate of 1-hour training. Confusion arises over the documentation needed for motorbike and car renewals, particularly around using one certificate for both. Different DLT offices have different policies; some may issue a 5-year license upon renewal. It is important to confirm specific requirements with the local DLT office before proceeding.
I was told at a driving school last week that they will give the 5 year license for DTV holders.( after the initial 2 years) Was in Chiang mai .. I guess as most things no set rules.
chonburi. Yes I had different visa back then, but she didnt ask about it and it doesnt show on the license. She said "2years for DTV" when I asked will I get 5
I think we all been in Thailand long enough to know that what we are told by one officer at one place is not necessarily the exact way it is everytime right?
The "paper from IO" is the "Certificate of residence". And yes... the DLT accept one original and one copy if you renew both licenses together. Same for the Health certificate... you need to buy just one, not two. About the e-learning... it says "print it out" but some DLT-Offices are totally fine with a screen shot on your phone.
