DTV Success Story 🎉

I wanted to share details on my DTV approval as this group, and a few members helped me along the way.

- I applied online December 12th and was approved on December 16th through the Washington DC Embassy (Texas Resident)

- I applied using the Soft Skill route and signed up for a year long seminar through discoverthainature.com and couldn’t recommend the program enough if you go this route for approval. Paperwork provided within 10 minutes of payment.

- Showed 1 bank statement with $16k+ USD and 2 years of tax returns

- Showed a bill and a license photo for proof of address

- I did not buy a flight. I put the flight #s of the flight I expect to take

- Set my dates of expected stay to 150 days

- I was not asked to provide any other documents

I’m open to messages for those with questions. Wishing everyone the best on their application process!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The author shares their positive experience of obtaining approval for a DTV visa through the Washington DC Embassy. They applied online, utilized the Soft Skill route via a seminar with discoverthainature.com, and provided minimal documentation, including a bank statement and proof of address. They received approval quickly and encourage others to reach out with questions about the process.

I did some digging on how legit it was before buying. They do offer a 90% refund if not approved using their docs. I’m excited for the flexibility of the course

@Soley ******
a 90% refund to boot sweetens the deal. The info actually seems quite useful for different types, if one is a survivalist, jungle survival enthusiast or into Thai cooking. Good find đź‘Ť.

Sounds interesting, if I was to apply for it, can I still do the spouse one for my husband as well

i’m not sure how this works as I did not apply for any spousal visas

So, in the DTV application, one is supposed to have a flight to Thailand already booked, even though the applicant doesn't yet have the visa?
Cissi *********
@Jim ******
in most cases no...

...on the application form you are supposed to add your intended departure date and a flight number (so one can just add a flight no of a flight you are planning to book). Just like the OP did.

However there have been a few posts where the embassy has asked for flight tickets as additional information. That is not the norm though.

Was everything done online through the website? Or did you have to have an in person meeting as well?

Do you need monthly income while in Thailand or not really?
Luit *****************
@Paw ******
no income needed for the visa, but living in Thailand is not free of course.
Paw *******
How to apply if we have kids and study in Thailand like private school or international?
Cissi *********
@Paw ******
the application process is the same no matter if you have kids in school or not...

However you need to do some research about schools and check if any of them accept a child to study on a DTV... they are likely to requier an ED visa.

Start with school research for the area you want to stay in, before deciding and applying for any visa. (Check the costs and what visa that is needed.)

Hi Soley, can I please ask what the seminar was, through Discovery Thailand?
Soley *******

@Samantha *******
if you look on the site, it’s their only one listed. Specifically geared towards DTV. Read the fine print though there are some countries that do not allow this seminar as a soft skill

Oh and it’s a botany/cooking seminar

@Soley ******
is it possible to do the classes online? I'm also thinking about applying but want to stay in Phuket.

@Shawn ********
yes I plan to attend online

@Soley ******
thank you.

@Sh***
they say yes, they call it an "online seminar" you can attend either in person in Bangkok or stream online:

"Our process is simple and convenient, as we also stream our meetings on Google Meet/Zoom/Microsoft Teams, so you can participate from everywhere in Thailand!"

Also I don't think anyone checks it once you have the visa.

A visa for an online training does not sound logical, do you think? Then there is no need to stay in Thailand.
Anita ********
@Soley ******
approximately 290 USD.

@Soley ******
thank you 🙏

Good post! Who knew (certainly not me). And paying 20k for a 5 year visa is great

@Todd ********
plus travel cost every 6 months

@Dennis ********
that’s not a cost. That’s just living a normal life
