Hey, has anyone recently in the passed 3 months tried applying for a Non ED non immigrant type visa specifically from Hand to Hand Combat School in Chiang Mai and was told that the approval must come from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thailand?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is seeking feedback from others who have applied for a Non-ED non-immigrant visa from the Hand to Hand Combat School in Chiang Mai, mentioning that their approval is pending from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. a Few weeks ago a professional fighter and now an employee of a Welness Center and rehab, both according their facebook working inside Thailand have the same problem. The Thai Consulate sees hand to hand combat training as a training course and not as a university level study, they need a letter form applicants company in Egypt. Their applications and passports are not laying on desks for months inside the Thai Consulate as they clearly state on their website: If documents fail, we contact you and can bring them the same afternoon or next morning and pick up your passport in the afternoon with or without the visa.

These are the requirements of the Thai Consulate in Cairo to get the Non Immigrant ED visa for a hand to hand combat course 2. Foreigners who wish to participate in projects or seminar, to attend a conference or training course in Thailand must provide the following documents:

· Letter from applicant’s company indicating the applicant’s position, length of employment, salary and purpose of visit(s) to Thailand.

· Letter of invitation or acceptance from the concerned companies/ organizations or institutes with business registration or business license

School license or business registration, list of shareholders and school profile

The hand to hand combat school is telling you it takes that long to get you listed as a student at the Ministry of Education and the same school is telling you, you can not cancel and apply for another visa? Well I have good news for you, your are FREE to apply for any visa. Schools do not own the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and have nothing to say about the rules and regulations in Thai Consulates.

This is if he's the same guy, it's possible I have him confused with another Egyptian who was applying for this same course and had this issue. I've asked him to clarify the details.

The MFA bit suggests it is the visa application that is stuck, not the getting the documents from the school (which come from the Ministry of Education).
Ivan ************
Right. From what I recall from the last time, he has the documents from the school / Ministry of Education. He has applied for the visa at the consulate in Cairo but the issue is they needed to send it to the MFA in Bangkok for approval. It's currently stuck at that stage.

The issue he has with cancelling and applying for something else is that he has already paid for the course.
Robert *******
Typo, I already changed it, sorry
Ivan ************
What does the Ministry of Labour have to do with anything? The issue is obviously that he has paid already for the course.

You might clarify if you are (1) waiting on the documents from the school, before you apply for the visa, or (2) you have applied for the visa at a consulate with the documents from the school, and are now awaiting approval from the MFA.

I think it is (2) and this delay is specific to your being Egyptian. If so, you aren't likely to get relevant replies from others here, unless they are also from a country on the list that requires the visa to go to the MFA in Bangkok to make a decision. Most people, this doesn't happen, the consulate can make the decision on their own.

Thanks James, this isn’t my first time applying but this year it seems they are investigating. I applied over 3 months ago and they are saying they are still waiting for the approval from the ministry. And they aren’t letting my cancel and apply for another type visa as this is in process
Ivan ************
He's asking about approval from the MFA, not the Ministry of Education which is where the documents come from BEFORE you apply.

I think his being Egyptian is very relevant- I think with Egyptians the consulate has to send this visa to the MFA in Bangkok for approval. That's different than for most nationalities.

I ask as Thai Consulates are very reluctant to give an Ed Visa to those who have been using various visas, exempt entries with extensions to live and stay in Thailand. So its possible the greater problem is IF you can get an Ed Visa with your history.
James ********
What visa do you have now? Have you been in Thailand all year 2019? And 2018 too ?
James ********
Have you had an Ed Visa before? When? And for Muay Thai also?
James ********
Check around with others in Chiang Mai to see how long it took to get the needed paper to apply for the Ed Visa

It’s not my first time dealing with Hand to Hand. It seems there’s a nationwide crackdown on these types of visas was wondering if anyone had the same experience. Maybe I’m forgetting an important piece of info I’m Egyptian.

Its between you and the school to arrange for proper Ed Visa documents. Be careful to ensure you do get proper documents accepted by the Ministry of Education.

Your school is your guide and must prepare documents needed when you submit your Ed Visa application at a Thai Consulate outside of Thailand.
