What are the pros and cons of applying for a Thai visa at the Taipei embassy?

ORIGINAL POSTER
I believe it'd be a good idea if we could post the pros and cons of every embassy. I'll start with my experience in taipei/taiwan:

Pros: they are pretty fast when it comes to check the documents. They usually reply to the emails within a few hrs.

Cons: EXTREMELY picky when it comes to check the documents, they require payslips and everything about your job even you apply for soft powers. They ask for a certificate of entry/exit in the country which requires to go to the local immigration office. They often ask for an interview which is everything but friendly. They want to check that your company pays you regularly and they want to see the money going into your account for a few months (even under soft powers)

Would I recommend this embassy? NO, It was a very stressful process, I got asked for a lot of extra documents (also from the gym) and some of them didn't even make sense. After mailing them dozens of pages, I still got asked to have an interview which took place 10 days after my documents got checked. The interview felt like a police one (why are you going to thailand, how many times have u been there, why do you want to train, have u ever trained before? where are u going to stay, how long will the contract of your condo be, how long do you want to stay in thailand, how will you support yourself, why did you apply in taiwan, how can you live there without a job and so on). I repeat, Taiwan isn't a good place to apply for a visa, it's actually a very stressful embassy

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the experience of applying for a Thai visa at the Taipei embassy, highlighting significant challenges. The original poster notes the embassy's speed in document checks and responses but criticizes their strict requirements for documentation, including payslips and certificates of entry/exit, leading to a stressful application process. Comments reveal varying experiences at different embassies, indicating inconsistent processing times and document requirements across locations. A participant shared a considerably smoother experience in Sydney, while others shared similar frustrations in Taipei due to increased scrutiny. Overall, the consensus suggests significant variability in application robustness across different embassies.

I think it is perfectly normal that they want to know about your plans.

The embassies have the difficult tasks to see which applicants genuine apply for the soft power activity and which are just plan to abuse the visa.

A bit strange that you think that people who take their job seriously are not OK.

I don't think anyone minds about them taking their job seriously. The problems are when they ask for documents that have already been sent or documents that are impossible to obtain (e.g. home embassy verification of a business registration)

Taipei increased scrutiny of SPers last year due to the rise of such bogus applications. Someone recently posted last month of applying there and being approved the same day and their husband approved the next day as a dependent. That level of speed was why Taipei was very popular 2024. As someone mentioned the agent handling your application comes into play.

Kuala Lumpur horror... Time, required docs. Waiting already almost 3 weeks.

So what do you do if you get income from different bank accounts and the income you're getting for your remote work isn't coming into the account with the equivalent of 12 or 13,000 U.S. dollars in it
Andi ***********
@Reed *********
It is no problem, I used 3 bank accounts. I showed online Income in 2 different accounts. My 500k shown in a another account.

Can I submit pdf’s of my monthly statements & leave my account numbers visible or blur out?
Andi ***********
@Phoebe ****
I left account number visible on statements but some people blur it out.
Reed **********
Ok that's reassuring. Did you just download pdfs of each month from each of your online banking apps? I have also an option for account verification letter but I guess some embassies wanna see all of your transactions for the month I guess it just depends which locations you go to I'm trying to figure out if any of the locations will have a hard time with me writing my own letter certifying that I'm allowed to work remote because I own my own business in the States and have all that documentation showing my name on the the creation of the company so I think I should be fine

@Reed *********
Yes, downloaded monthly PDFS from online/desktop account. I did submit an account verification/certification of 500k THB balance in Taipei. Even though it was listed as acceptable on their website they refused to accept it saying we want to see transactions for the 500k, I tried to point out their website but they would not budge, I had to rush back to my hotel to print out the statement as they gave me just one hour to hand in the statement . You should double check with the embassy you use regarding the verification letter or submit with transactions. it is essential as a business owner to write your own remote work approval letter. You will be asked to submit it if you don't.

You may show multiple bank accounts to support the requirement.

OK no problem i was just worried they'd maybe say no way you can

Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. May 2025 - DTV application.

This Embassy say they complete the application process in 5 working days, but it could be longer, if they need more documents, or request in interview. If they need either of the above, they start counting the 5 days again, from the day after they get the additional documents, or have an interview.

I uploaded my application on a Friday am, and paid the fee. E-receipt back within 1 hour.

Email request for more documentation I received on the same day, in the afternoon. So the response time is excellent at the Royal Thai embassy, HCMC.

The website application tacking system in my account showed as ‘requested more documents’

They requested:

1) pictures of all pages of my passport including blank pages.

2) examples of my Freelance work, experience and qualifications.

3) Highlight on my 6 months of Bank statements, the items that were income from my freelance work.

I completed all of this over the weekend, and uploaded into my account on the website, first thing on Monday morning.

The application tracking system immediately changes to Application pending document checking.

By Tuesday, the online tracking system changed to ‘Application pending approval’

By their time line counting system, Tuesday became day 1 of the application.

My application stayed as ‘Application pending approval for for 5 days exactly, so on Monday of the following week, I get the application approved email, and the e-visa attached.

From start to finish, 7 working days.

The only difficulty I had, was uploading all of the information in the upload portals. Each section only has 3 Mb of capacity, and only 1 file can be loaded into each portal. I had multiple files, for each section, so I had to save the multiple files into 1 PDF file for each section to be able to upload. It just took a bit of time to arrange all of that, making the actual application input time longer than expected.

Job done and very Happy. 😃

Got it done in Sydney, sent in what i felt was good document's, no additional document's needed and I was approved in 5 days

Depend not only ambassy but of the agent too, I suppose. Everyone told me France is very long (at least
***
weeks) and picky but I got approved in 7 days and the agent was very arranged with one of my document I can’t had fast.

The biggest problem with that idea is different embassies can, and do, change weekly on how strict they are.
Ja***
You forgot the biggest pro/con. Was your visa approved in the end?
Anonymous ******************
@Ja***
Let me guess… That’s a yes. 10% pros and 90% cons. But in the end, all embassies are 'extremely picky' yet they keep handing out 5-year visas for some months of Muay Thai course. 😂 Humans are never satisfied.

Anonymous participant 282 and what one Embassy or Consulate approves today might be denied tomorrow. Lack of consistency with DTV Visa Application requirements 😔

Anonymous participant 282 wait for a year and try to re enter without more soft power
