TLDR : Answer Summary
In Bangkok, the location for applying for a 60-day COVID extension is determined by your entry visa type. If you entered Thailand on a 30-day visa exemption, you must apply at Muang Thong Thani. Conversely, those on a 60-day tourist visa should go to Changwattana. It's crucial to apply before your current visa or extension expires, but there's no guarantee the extension will be granted. Applicants should be aware of stricter immigration practices recently and prepare supporting documents, such as proof of address registration (TM30) and a rationale for their extended stay.

You can apply for a COVID extension...but there is no guarantee that it will be approved.

Apply before your current permission to stay date expires

But not later than January 25th

Go before that date as the extension - if granted - is from your current COVID extension ending date.

The COVID extension is not guaranteed. In fact we have reports of this happening in recent weeks:

...of extension being denied

...given 7 days to depart Thailand

...granting less than 60 days

...requesting to see a confirmed booked flight out of Thailand.

And/Or

...a letter from your home country Embassy requesting the extension

Be sure that you have a TM30 address registration filed where you are living.

And be prepared to answer the question... Why are you still in Thailand?

The COVID extension is not guaranteed...and as you stated this is not your first COVID extension request.

If you have been in Thailand using extensions...

Including multiple COVID extensions....

Then the newly published Thai Immigration Order may be of interest to you.

The Immigration Officers have been instructed to be stricter in granting the COVID extensions.

And recent reports of less than 60 days are reported granted...even the 7 days to leave Thailand stamp.

Suggest you have a Plan B in mind.

Good Luck

Sadly, you can not choose the location you can use.

If you entered on a 30 day visa exempt, you will go to Muang Thong Thani.

If you entered on a 60 day tourist visa, you will go to Changwattana

I came here on a 30 day visa exempt and got my first Covid visa extension in muang thong thani almost two months ago. Will I now go back to muang thong thani for a further extension ( as opposed to changwattana)? Thanks 🙏

that’s exactly what I wanted to know. I filed a 30 day visa exempt at the Muang Thong Thani last week.
