TLDR : Answer Summary
The new COVID extension, if processed today, will typically add 60 days to the current expiration date of December 28. However, it's important to note that many immigration offices allow you to apply for a new extension only when you have 30 days or less remaining on your current visa. Therefore, if you apply now, you may receive another extension that expires 60 days after December 28, potentially giving you a total of 2 months starting from February 28.

In Bangkok you can apply for a new extension when you have 45 days or less left on your stamp SO you can go apply for a new extension now at MTT if you want to

As far as your other question, let's not get the cart before the horse ๐Ÿ˜• how about you go get the covid extension you're talking about NOW and worry about the next one down the road a bit.

isn't '45 days or less left' for other longer-term visa types? For COVID extension specifically I have a couple of times been turned away and asked to come back when I have about 5 days left on the visa.

I re-read my FAQ, your question wasn't on the FAQ, so I added it:

K. WILL THE 60 DAY EXTENSION OF STAY BASED ON UNABLE TO TRAVEL DUE TO COVID-19 BE ADDED ON TO MY EXISTING EXTENSION OF STAY?

If you are getting your first extension of stay, the extension of stay will being on the date you apply. FOR MOST IMMIGRATION OFFICES, if you are applying for another extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19, the time will be added on to your existing stamp.

and while you are at it...think what you will do if the Immigration officer wants to see a confirmed airline ticket to your home country before he approves your next extension?

That happened this week at MTT.

As a rule if you are apply for another covid extension FROM a covid extension they will add the 60 days to your expiration date.

BUT

Keep in mind that most offices will only let you apply for a new extension when you have 30 days or less left on your current stamp.

What office are you applying at?
