ED Visa Extension question: I just realized that my first extension for ED visa is due on April 15. That falls on the weekend of Songkran, and since the holiday has been extended immigration will be closed April 12-16. How early before deadline can I extend it? Can I extend on a day after the 15th since it lands on a weekend + holiday?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the possibility of extending their ED visa before the deadline, which falls on April 15, during the Songkran holiday when immigration offices will be closed from April 12-16. Commenters advise that it is possible to apply for an extension up to 45 days before the current visa expiration. It's recommended to apply at least a week before the holiday to avoid complications and long waits. Additionally, extensions can generally be processed beyond the expiration date if applied timely.

Okay in Chiang Mai, Bangkok and a few other immigration offices you can apply for an extension of stay when you have 45 days or less left on your current stamp.

As has been pointed out there is no down side to going early because they ADD the new extension to your old expiration date.

, you'd be way better off going to get your extension the week before the Songkran Holiday. I'm sure the week of the holiday is going to be a nightmare out at the immigration office.

, thanks I talked to my school today and they said the earliest the Ministry of Education will process paperwork is 30 days in advance, not 45. So I’m going to do it as soon as possible and hopefully avoid the Songkran weekend. Thanks!

most schools can get the paperwork as early as you need it. Tell them you need it done by the first week in April

Thanks, Tod. So I should ask my school to prepare paperwork early for me, and I hope it will work out. Otherwise, I will be spending April 11 all day at immigration and that does not sound like a good idea.

well i normally extend my visa at least 1 week before the expiration date.. i had 2 ED visa last 2 years.. the officer will count 90 days from the expiration date so no worries but yes better avoid coming 1 day before long holiday. oh i recently extend my son ED and my nonO on 17feb for expiration date 3mar.. you can notify your school asap so they can start processing the documents.

Bummer... I’m going to have to come back to Chiang Mai early, as school is on break and I hoped to be away for Songkran!
