What are the key considerations for applying for a Digital Nomad Visa in Thailand, especially regarding income verification?

Smooth first DTV (workcation) entry at BKK last night.

I was approved easily after 75% of folks in this group advised against applying.

This was based on my not having regular income but I'd like to encourage anyone in a similar situation who's considering applying to pay close attention to the OR clause in requirement 5.

Basically if you can showcase a professional portfolio (this can be assets, not just freelance work) that demonstrates "digital nomad status" then you can be considered if you meet the other requirements. You just need to show you actively work on it in a professional capacity.

It's worth noting that 'digital nomad' doesn't just mean freelance work with invoices etc.

Everything isn't black and white, if you have merit, you can be accepted if you make your case properly.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A recent post discussed a successful application for Thailand's Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) despite doubts from others about eligibility due to irregular income. The applicant emphasized the importance of the 'OR' clause regarding professional portfolio demonstration. Having diverse forms of professional work can aid approval, not just traditional freelance jobs. Comments further highlighted the significance of which embassy is applied to and the variability of approval criteria. The Hanoi embassy was mentioned positively in relation to DTV applications, with quick approvals noted.

Applicants don't stick to the criteria as asked by the embassy. They try to put more documents because their portfolio is not high standard. This leads embassy to believe they are not what they say they are. So ask more docs or reject. Follow the rules it's a 5 year visa not for fun do visa exempt if you don't have solid application

I too didn’t have regular income, nor did I show bank statement transactions - rather just the ending amount each month. I included a short portfolio of work, and was approved in a week (after others said I wouldn’t get approved). Well done to you! We enter BKK in a few days 😊 (I used Ankara embassy)

As most that report about successful / rejection of applying for DTV, those reports is worthless without telling which Embassy was used, since there are so big differences between the different Embassies.

Thank You for your helpful report 👍

Congratulations 👏👏👏

PRINT OUT THE EMAIL THAT HAS YOUR DTV VISA.

That's what you should do... print it out.

You may have to show PROOF of your DTV Visa to airline staff on check-in for your flight ✈️ to Thailand...even to the connecting airline staff. Or to the land border crossing entry Thai Immigration Officer.

Upon arrival into Thailand, show the DTV visa to the Thai Immigration Officer and look at the STAMP placed in your passport to be sure you are STAMPED in for 180 days.

Anonymous participant Ok, Wise move applying there. Choice of embassy helps as well with "different than norm" applications. How long did it take to get approved?

"Everything isn't black and white, if you have merit, you can be accepted if you make your case properly." - this is exactly the point. It is based quite a bit on human judgement. There are some "Must Haves" and also where judgement is applied locally.

Which embassy was it?

@Greg *******
True.... my same question

It is this human element that is very apparent I'm the applications. If there was none they could write a programme to process everything - seen that tired and failed so many times.

Yep, that is where AI cannot compete. with the nuance of human decision making.

Some of the tools I have seen recently are amazing - not often I am gobsmacked but today I am. about an ugrade to a widely available tool.

never match the complexity of human decision making i think useful thou nevertheless

It can remove many layers of human decision making though. Creating reports and presentation in minutes what used to take hours to pull together. That is just a simple surface level application. Research in Pharma etc will be accelerated. Moderna doing amazing things. This is all on internal databases and LLM's.
