Can someone clarify difinitively the situation regarding Malaysia's upcoming shutdown on 18th March? Specifically, with regards to restrictions on exiting the country, this seems to apply only to Malaysian nationals (so its misinformation being spread around that tourists can't leave). Thank you in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
During the nationwide lockdown in Malaysia starting March 18, 2020, the Malaysian government prohibited foreigners from entering the country. However, the restrictions on exiting apply primarily to Malaysian nationals, who are banned from traveling abroad. Tourists are still allowed to leave the country despite misinformation suggesting otherwise.

FYI..

March 16, 2020

Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced Monday a two-week nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of the new coronavirus.

Muhyiddin said that starting Wednesday, the ENTRY of FOREIGNERS will be PROHIBITED, WHILE MALAYSIANS WILL BE BANNED FROM TRAVELLING ABROAD.

Those who just returned from abroad, must be screened and self-quarantined for 14 days.

Thanks James. Some people were circulating that you will not be allowed to exit, which is not the case. It looks like foreigners can exit Malaysia any time. Entry will be restricted after today Tues 17th. Today will be the last chance for visa runs to Malaysia it seems.
