Say i hire a an Agent to help set me up a Bangkok Bank account in BKK. Is there a downside to my future ease of banking if the only branch he has hook-up is 10km away from my Condo in Asoke? Is it easy to later transfer account to branch closer to my home, like one can in US? Additionally, would like recommendations from anyone who knows agent whose turf is in sukhumvit. Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Hiring an agent to open a Bangkok Bank account may simplify the process, but it can have implications for future banking convenience. Most users report that once an account is set up at a specific branch, it remains the 'home' branch, and moving accounts to a closer branch later can be complicated or even impossible without closing the account. Additionally, customers often have to return to the original branch for updates or account management. However, many banking functions can be performed at any branch, and apps can facilitate many transactions without the need to visit the home branch. Recommendations for agents in the Sukhumvit area can be found through user suggestions.

Most of the banking functions can be done on your app or in any of the bank branches, not necessarily the home branch.

Once you have once bank account it should be easier to open up another account

Any branch anywhere is the same.

My agent setup my initial account at a branch near to the immigration department. But I can do my banking at any of its branches.

Sukhumvit is about 30km long in Bangkok. Which district are you in, and what district is your bank in?

It's not a question of moving your account. If you want a local account then you have to start all over again and its completely at the discretion of the branch you choose. Keep trying though as I had to apply 4 times at the same branch of BB before I got someone to say yes.

Bangkok Bamk don't do transfers. You just open another account each time you move and have to do all the associated admin with regular payments etc. That's why when I moved, I opened a Kasikorn account.

I find K-bank much better than Bangkok Bank.

BB still has the concept of a “home” branch….you need to go back there with your passbook to update your passport, phone number, etc.

not the experience I have had

Also I needed 2 forms of I.D.

I went with someone assertive who spoke Thai. That helped.

The only issue is u pay extra costs while using a BB account in other provinces. Like bank transfers and such.

If you have a visa and lease on a condo you should be able to open a bank account.

I worked in bkk and Bangkok accounts, when I moved into the sticks I had to go to Bangkok to make changes etc to my account, I closed the bkk accounts and now bank locally.

Once you get an account at a branch then that is your branch. I got my Kasikorn account at a BKK branch. Then I moved outside Bangkok. I couldn’t just move the account to my countryside branch. I even had to come to Bangkok to close the account

I now live in Krabi and both my bank accounts are in Bangkok. Never been a problem

my bank charge me 20 baht when I use atm outside my district
Bernd ***********
@Ian *********
you should use cardless ATM withdrawal. Free of charge everywhere within Thailand.
Ian **********
@Bernd **********
I think that is only SCB using their app
Bernd ***********
@Ian *********
BB as well , cardless is free of charge in all provinces.

I am with Krungsri, and I don't get any bank charge for ATM use anywhere in Thailand. Many years ago I did, but not now.

@Michael ********
How? even SCB charge a fee for ATM use outside Bkk …

@Aaron *****
I repeat, Krungsri do not charge for ATM use wherever I am in Thailand
Corrine ******

@Andi **********
do you mind sharing any contact you have for Pattaya? Appreciate it!

@Corrine *****
FS Consulting, Tik Tok travel services, Maansearat. You can also find them mentioned by a lot of other people. They can open the bank account very quickly.

I never use my branch. Get a account and see about moving to another branch later.
