Say i hire a an Agent to help set me up a Bangkok Bank account in BKK. Is there a downside to my future ease of banking if the only branch he has hook-up is 10km away from my Condo in Asoke? Is it easy to later transfer account to branch closer to my home, like one can in US? Additionally, would like recommendations from anyone who knows agent whose turf is in sukhumvit. Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Opening a Bangkok Bank account at a branch 10km away from your condo in Asoke may present some drawbacks, particularly regarding account management and convenience. There are indications that once you open an account at a specific branch, it is considered your 'home' branch, making it difficult to transfer the account to a different branch later on. This can lead to extra costs when using the account outside Bangkok, and necessitates returning to the original branch for administrative tasks like updating personal information. Recommendations for agents in the Sukhumvit area are also mentioned, with users sharing their experiences with various agents.

Bangkok Bamk don't do transfers. You just open another account each time you move and have to do all the associated admin with regular payments etc. That's why when I moved, I opened a Kasikorn account.

I find K-bank much better than Bangkok Bank.

BB still has the concept of a “home” branch….you need to go back there with your passbook to update your passport, phone number, etc.

Also I needed 2 forms of I.D.

I went with someone assertive who spoke Thai. That helped.

The only issue is u pay extra costs while using a BB account in other provinces. Like bank transfers and such.

If you have a visa and lease on a condo you should be able to open a bank account.

I worked in bkk and Bangkok accounts, when I moved into the sticks I had to go to Bangkok to make changes etc to my account, I closed the bkk accounts and now bank locally.

Once you get an account at a branch then that is your branch. I got my Kasikorn account at a BKK branch. Then I moved outside Bangkok. I couldn’t just move the account to my countryside branch. I even had to come to Bangkok to close the account

you should use cardless ATM withdrawal. Free of charge everywhere within Thailand.

I think that is only SCB using their app

BB as well , cardless is free of charge in all provinces.

I am with Krungsri, and I don't get any bank charge for ATM use anywhere in Thailand. Many years ago I did, but not now.

I never use my branch. Get a account and see about moving to another branch later.

I hired Siam Legal to get me a Bangkok bank ac at the Exchange Tower, Asoke, but that was 9 years ago, so can't comment if they still do that.
