Hey, I wanted to ask if anyone knows from experience what the actual difference is between the DTV Soft and Nomad visions.

I'm wondering when my course end i leave Thailand after my course end return after can they ask why I returned and if I have a course or a return ticket? And can I work online for clients from another country with the DTV Soft? I will be grateful for some information 😊

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the differences between the DTV Soft and Nomad visas in Thailand, particularly regarding the ability to work remotely. DTV Soft is sometimes thought to permit remote work, but official rules suggest otherwise, stating that it primarily allows participation in specific cultural courses without explicit permission for online work. Users share personal experiences, suggesting varying enforcement of these rules, but overall, common practice indicates that online work can occur under the DTV Soft Visa despite potential risks.

There is no difference we're all DTV holders and can work remotely if we choose. πŸ‘

There is a visa, that is is split in three different purpose of visit.

You want to work online for clients from another country?

That is called: Remote worker

And guess what , it is NOT learn how to fry an egg.

You did choose the wrong option, cancel the visa and apply again for the correct purpose.

Google excerpt :

Yes, you can generally remain in Thailand after stopping Soft Power DTV courses. While the visa requires proof of enrollment for application, current practice does not mandate continuous enrollment upon re-entry. You can stay for 180 days per entry, extendable for another 180 days.

Key Considerations for Stopping Courses:

Re-entry Freedom: Most DTV holders in Soft Power schemes (e.g., Muay Thai, cooking) report no issues re-entering without booking new courses immediately.

Rules & Risks: Though not currently enforced, immigration officers technically hold the authority to check if you are still conducting the activity.

Visa Validity: The visa is valid for 5 years and allows for multiple entries, letting you reset your 180-day stay by leaving and returning.

Exactly what I said, the difference between current practice and official rules.

The Rules & Risks perfectly describes this.

For now the risk might be very low, but this can change by the day because there is no rule change needed for enforcement.

And when extending in country enforcement is just in place.

The difference is that one gives you explicit permission to work remotely from Thailand, the other does not

In fact I only see a request for a document that you understand Thai labour law and that you only can participate in soft power activities.

How should I see this as an approval that you are allowed to work in Thailand?

Next step is to provide an immigration statement, since embassies have nothing to do with checking for illegal workers. The MFA also says you can extend your DTV with immigration which is true but for max 5% of the attempts reported here. They will most likely tell you to exit and back.

Thai labour law is clear about working in Thailand, most is prohibited, and you will not find an exception that DTV softpower is allowed to work, so Thai labour law proves whay

He’s right. DTV Workcation allows people to work remotely in Thailand with their foreign companies. And the DTV soft power does not.

Depends on what you want to know, the official rules or just common practice.

Official rule is that your visit of stay must match your visa, no course anymore means the purpose of stay does not match anymore and you can be stopped.

Common practice is that on the border this is normally not checked.

Working online is officially not alllowed on DTV Softpower, there is nothing special on DTV softpower that makes it legal to work.

Common practice is that the prohibited work online normally is not enforced, but you can have bad luck when someone hates you and informs authorities.

What should I tell the Thai Embassy in London?

I have nothing to do with Thai Embassy in Londen, I am not from UK.

You applied for softpower and they asked you these documents?

Nothing wrong with it because you clearly don't know about the rules of working in Thailand.

But London Embassy is not the authority to decide if you can work in Thailand.

They just decide what kind of proof they want for visa.

When they ask something thad does not mean it is a requirement for all embassies.

Look how they often ask for a real flight ticket while other embassies just accept flight number of the intended flight.

So the fact they ask you to sign a document is not proof that they allow you to work online in Thailand.

You are the one spreading misinformation!

Only DTV 1 (workcation) is allowed to work remotely.

For working MFA wants to have checks on employer or business and by choosing the wrong type of visa to evade those checks, you are just working as illegal as on visa exempt.

Show it is nonsense, you only have to find the info that for softpower DTV exists an exeption that allows you to work without permit.
