TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the suitability of the 5-year Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) compared to Non-O and Non-B visas for working remotely in Thailand, specifically for a cybersecurity engineer. Key insights reveal the DTV allows flexibility without strict entry/exit periods, whereas Non-O and Non-B visas are tied to work permits requiring employment by Thai companies. Additionally, some comments suggest that while DTV offers a straightforward option for remote work, it has different entry and stay parameters compared to traditional work-related visas.
There's really only 2 visa options that allow you to legally work remotely for a non Thai company outside of Thailand. The DTV is the easiest one to get, the LTR Remote Worker one has very high requirements for both the applicant and the company they work for
I’m a remote worker living in Thailand on DTV. I’ve met a number of people here on DTV visas, including a security principal engineer from Iran here in Phuket. We’re everywhere.
To get a Non-B with WP you need to be employed by Thai Company. For O and WP is same, Thai company. The LTR is available if you earn enough and the company is large enough. That is a better option.
DTV is valid for 5 years and during this validity you get 180 days of stay when you enter Thailand
a Non Immigrant O visa gives once 90 days on entry, you are allowed to work with this visa in combination with the work permit, which can only applied for by a Thai company.
a Non Immigrant B visa only gives once 90 days on entry and can only be obtained in combination with a work permit, which can only applied for by a Thai company.
If you need to work on-line for a company outside Thailand, the DTV is the best option
The company would need to employ 2 Thais for you to get a WP and subsequently a years extension. You'd also need business premises which immigration will inspect. Be aware theres is a huge crackdown on companies skirted the rules now and the last 2 years. You are correct about the 180 days and so far there is no limit to the amount of entries.
