Answer summary
The discussion revolves around the current visa regulations for entering Thailand, specifically focusing on the tourist visa and visa exemption policies. Participants argue about the accuracy of information provided by different embassies, the discretion exercised by immigration officers at entry points, and the possible limitations on the number of allowed entries per year. There are concerns about misinformation circulating within various official sources and the enforcement of immigration rules that appear to impact long-term stays.

Main concept: tourist visas/visa exempt are for tourists, for one time.

If you are maneuvering to stay long in Thailand with them, you'll not be let in

The details are changing. But they are enforcing the principle.

And you question shows you haven't understood the concept. You think it's about sone criteria you'll trick your way around it

No limit to entries does not mean unlimited. They have been cracking down on people abusing tourist entries for over a year now.

30 day tourist visa now?

there is no 30 day tourist visa. Visa exempt is now 30 days. Tourist visas are and always have been 60 days.

In a recent reply from Sydney consulate they stated only 2 visa free entries per yr. Didnt say if it was a calendar or rolling year

The Australian government does not decide who can and cannot enter Thailand.

There is no limit of 2 entries, that is only for land borders.

And it is not require for a passport valid for 6 months to enter Thailand. That is only a requirement to apply for a Thai visa.

Advice from Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In photo. Royal Thai Embassy Washington DC has same information “Temporary passport / provisional passports, or emergency passports issued to nationals exempt from the Visa Scheme for 30 days are accepted by the Immigration Bureau in Thailand. However, the passport must be valid for at least six months upon returning to the country of residence.”

On the Thai Embassy in London it states that a visa exemption is limited to twice in a calendar year. There is no mention of entry by land or air. That seems to suggest that entries by air might be limited to two, also. That would be a major pain if true.

it's not true. The embassies don't make the rules, immigration does.

Short of being able to read the ministerial instruction in the Royal Gazette, how does one in fact get reliable information?

Yep. I know. I have lived and worked in Thailand for years, I was just surprised at such misleading information from a major Thai embassy. The Government's messaging is piss poor in comparison to other nations in SE Asia.

that depends on what you mean by reliable. Every entry is at the discretion of the immigration officer you're standing in front of. Even if 1000 people were let in that have the same circumstances as you, it doesn't mean you won't face any issues. The best you can do is meet the requirements and try not to stand out from the crowd with things like excessive entries, or having spent 6 months in Thailand over the last year, etc.

It's pretty misleading in that case. See

Does that stop them publicly posting the information...?

nope. Lots of embassies post incorrect information, or never update their websites when information changes. They also tell people incorrect information about immigration all the time. Immigration officers tell people incorrect information about embassies all the time. They're completely separate government agencies that really have no idea about the other.

All depends on IO. I’ve traveled for years into kingdom every month , but I was out of the kingdom more then in each month.

Another thing that works in your favour in travelling back to your home country. Technically no limit on entires each year if you return to your home country.

Just because there is no specified limit for air entry doesn't mean that unlimited entries are allowed. Every entry is at the discretion of the immigration officer you stand in front of and if he thinks you are abusing a system that's designed for short term tourism to spend extended time inside Thailand you will be denied entry.
