TLDR : Answer Summary
The concept of a 'free tourist visa' is a misunderstanding; travelers can enter Thailand under a visa exempt entry stamp, which recently increased from 30 to 60 days for certain nationalities. This entry can also be extended for an additional 30 days at an immigration office for a fee (1900 baht). Discussions also mentioned the upcoming digital arrival card and clarified the distinctions between different visa types.

Well this topic sure went off the proverbial rails pretty quickly 😛

I would say that the O/P now has a good idea that the visa exempt entry program is for 60 days and they can get one 30 day extension on that stamp after they're here at the immigration office for 1900baht

Thanx one and all for the comments,

We are done 😛

There’s a free 60 day visa exemption. That you can pay to extend for 30 days. But an actual tourist visa costs money

There is no such thing as a free tourist visa!

Only Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru and South Korea get 90 day visa exempt stamps.

Nope 60 days which you can extend for another 30 days for 1900 baht at an immigration office and some other paper work which varies from office to office to beat check with the office you plan to use beforehand

There is no "free tourist visa" 😮

You BUY a tourist visa from a thai consulate before you come here

I think what you're talking about is the free "visa exempt" entry stamp. That's where you can show up here without having bought a visa beforehand and get stamped in free

Visa exempt entry used to be for 30 days and you could extend that one time for 30 more days at the immigration office for 1900baht.

BUT

On July 15th 2024 it went to 60 days free entry (visa exempt) and you can still extend that one time for 30 more days at the immigration office for 1900baht <-giving you a total time in country of 90 days.

These are the 90+ countries that can show up here and get in free for 60 days

@Tod ********
Technically, you don’t even BUY visa, no money is returned on visa application denial.
Stuart ********
@Nikolas **************
The price is for processing your visa application regardless of acceptance or not.
Peter ********
@Nikolas **************
The no return of money is stated on your application.

Do you think they work for free??
Tod *********
@Nikolas **************
I use the term 'buy' a visa to let people know it's something you pay for at the thai consulate when you apply for one
