Looking at leaving the country at the end of the month to apply for a 60-day tourist visa (UK citizen) but it's been a while since I've done it (pre-COVID). I was hoping I could get some info from folks who've done it more recently as I'm getting some mixed information online.

Deciding between Hanoi or Vientiane, does anyone know if either currently require prebooked appointments or if they take walk-ins at set times, and what the turnaround times are like at the moment? From memory, I only ever needed passport photos, and copies of my Laos visa and my passport before. Have the requirements changed in terms of things like proof of onward travel/funds?

Thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK citizen seeking to apply for a 60-day tourist visa is considering either Hanoi or Vientiane for the application. Vientiane requires appointments, while Hanoi accepts walk-ins but can have varying processing times, ranging from next-day pickup to potentially a week. Required documentation typically includes passport photos, copies of the Laos visa, passport, proof of onward travel, and sufficient funds (at least 6 months of bank statements rather than 3). It's advisable to stay proactive in following up on the application status.

Hanoi... :)

Hanoi was very easy for us. Just walked in with all the requested info including 6 months of bank statements, not 3 months, full flight out with original invoice and an itinerary of what we wanted to see in Thailand during the stay etc. 2 days later we picked up our visa. They were very nice and helpful. They wanted payment in $s for some reason.

Hanoi is walk in then previously pick up next day but last Sept took a week to process. HCMC is appointment in advance (book now if you choose HCMC). Pay attention to all the requirements and book a real onward flight not a fake one. You need to check in on them daily as they don't get around to asking for missing information very dilligently so stay on top of them to get the application processed.

Vientiane requires appointments. Can’t say about Hanoi. Usually it’s apply morning of day one and pick up afternoon of day two (business days).
