TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion highlights the cost of obtaining a visa for Australians in Thailand, specifically mentioning a mark-up at $600 AUD (12,798 THB) as of the current exchange rate. Comparisons are made with visa costs in New Zealand, Canada, and the reasons behind variations in pricing, including currency fluctuations. Some participants express that despite the perceived high costs, they see the value in the service offered.

Agents are quoting 150k to assist the process

@Austin ******
what does that have to do with the cost of the DTV's at the thai embassies in other countries?
Felipe *********
That's because currency fluctuations, AUD is pretty weak now.

Canada is $650 CAD so around $720 AUD.

price seems a bit extreme for NZ! Why so expensive there? Supposed to be 10,000 bht not 38,000!

I guess because New Zealand immigration c**ts are refusing tourist visas for Thais for unknown reasons and the Thai Embassy in New Zealand is retaliating.

Applied for my Thai wife for New Zealand. Showed like 40k USD in her bank, 15 countries travel history in 1 year (some very expensive destinations like Barbados, Saint Lucia etc) and a European residence permit.

Despite that, she was rejected for a Tourist Visa for no reason. I was pissed but just said OK then never I visit this country again hahah.

Now we are going to French Polynesia instead, spending money there 🙃

The Thai consulate in Wellington New Zealand is the most expensive thai consulate in the WORLD for visa prices

BUT

Just so you know DTV prices are

USA/Phnom Penh/Yangon - 400USD

Hanoi/HCMC Vietnam - 340USD

ONLY

Savannakhet/Vientiane - 10k baht

thanks. Yes, I knew a few of the SEA price points but NZ wow.

Just to make all that clear.

DTV supposed to be 10,000 bht

Current exchange XE Rates today;

= $468.68 AUD but charge $600 (12,802 bht)

= $518.75 NZD but charge $2,000 (38,533 bht)

Each embassy/consulate sets it own price point. Yes it’s supposed to be the sort of equivalent to 10k but because exchange rates fluctuate they may price it slightly different. NZ is just an anomaly. It charges 4-5x more than any other embassy on earth.

spose not worth Kiwi’s getting anything through there! 😂
Stuart *********
@Evan *******
Absolutely not. Kiwis can come visa exempt and get many visas in country or for the DTV they can go to a nearby country and apply there for a fraction of what NZ charges.

I have no idea why NZ changed their pricing when they switched to the evisa system, but it could be that they don’t want to process any visas and just want to go surfing.

@Stuart ********
lol not much surfing in Wellington well there is a few south beaches but pretty rocky and Nz is just too expensive for everything they charge $341 for a tourist visa for Thai’s to come here and then a $100 on top of that for some other stupid fee. It’s why ppl are leaving in droves to Aussie the mentality here is just charge ppl to the point of bankruptcy for everything
Paul *******
@Paul ********
That $100 fee (roughly 1900 THB) is a tourism tax all foreigners on tourist visas pay when applying for a NZ tourist visa. Exemptions apply for Australian citizens and citizens of certain Pacific Island nations.

Nz is 2k nzd count yourself lucky
