TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTV Softpower visa application process, particularly from New Zealand, has drawn concerns regarding the exorbitant fees at the Thai Consulate in Wellington compared to other locations. Applicants are advised to initially enter Thailand on a 60-day visa exemption before applying locally for better rates. There are discussions about the requirement of maintaining a bank account balance of 500,000 THB, with queries on whether this amount needs to be kept in a Thai bank account.

Kiwi here but applied in Australia because we were there at the time and it was cheaper. I showed a screenshot of my non Kiwisaver investment fund, just the balance, not even a list of transactions. I had no issues.

might be cheaper for you to just fly to Oz and apply for the Non-O visa thru the thai consulate there (even with the air fare and hotel it would most likely NOT equal the cost of the NZ consulate visa price)

in my personal opinion, you may very well be worse off for applying for any Thai E–Visa at the Thai Embassy in Wellington (New Zealand) for a number of reasons:

1.) No updates to publicly available information provided from the Wellington Thai Embassy at all about any Thai E–Visas: no info about DTV or even the official price of a DTV, no basic info about any E–Visa processing times or procedures;

2.) Potentially more onerous additional requirements, additional documents needed/requested of visa applications compared to other Thai Embassies/Consulates, even for New Zealand citizens residing in NZ;

3.) As already mentioned by many, the extremely high and inexplicable prices for Thai E–Visas at the Thai Embassy in Wellington

Notwithstanding such an exercise in futility, it's always great to have first-hand field reports from anyone's real experience with submitting a Thai E–Visa application at the Thai Embassy in Wellington!

And if they reject your application you don't get the money back so forget wellington.

Do NOT apply for ANY visa using the thai consulate in Wellington NZ

they are the most expensive Thai consulate in the entire world

to give you an idea these are DTV prices at a few Consulates

Lao - 10K baht

USA/Cambodia - 400USD

Vietnam 340USD

BUT

New Zealand - 2,000 NZD <- that's $1150USD

Come here to thailand on a 60 day 'free stamp' visa exempt entry, enroll in what ever soft power thing you're going to sign up for and then go to a nearby consulate to apply for the DTV

There is no reason to spend that kind of money getting a DTV thru Wellington when it's less than half that price every where else

yes, I'm aware of the extortionate price in NZ but I'm asking if I would have a better chance of success applying in my home country? I could apply in Cambodia or Vietnam but do not have a laptop while i travel to upload the application or any further information that might be requested and I've heard this is not an easy process from an iphone.

I would say
@James *********
nope, you wouldn't have a single bit better chance of being approved in NZ versus Lao/Cambodia/Vietnam, etc

no better chance, and honestly we have no real idea of how difficult or easy NZ is since their pricing has scared everyone away. Thousands upon thousands of applications have been done with smartphones. You can setup your account, start an application to practice by going through all the motions right now to familiarize yourself with the actual process and questions.
