Applied for DTV Visa for me and my girlfriend on the 1st December from HCMC Vietnam. Was asked for 6 months of bank statements, proof of work (portfolio) etc. provided all documents and got requested for more, motivation letter and source of funds. Mine has been approved, my girlfriends rejected. Absolutely gutted. She hit all the requirements and we are very unsure as to what possibly could have gone wrong. The whole process was extremely stressful and anxiety inducing and now has completely messed up my future plans for Thailand. Question, we have been in Thailand for 90 days from Feb - May 2025 and then was in England for 3 months. We then got back to Thailand end of August and left for Vietnam at the end of November. What’s our chances of getting a tourist visa approved for my girlfriend (not an exemption) ? This has thrown a complete spanner in the works and the fact that some people have been approved from 1 month of bank statements is genuinely concerning. Why are all the embassies requiring different things? Can’t believe it 😭

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user applied for a DTV visa for both themselves and their girlfriend, but while their application was approved, their girlfriend's was rejected despite fulfilling the stated requirements. This has led to significant stress and confusion regarding the differing visa approval processes. The user is now inquiring about the chances of their girlfriend obtaining a tourist visa after the rejection, amidst concerns about inconsistent documentation requirements across embassies.
Your mistake is that you applied together, you should have applied separately 2 or 3 days apart. Or apply at different embassies. Never go through border control together or apply for a visa. This is valid anywhere in the world. They have assessed that she does not meet the conditions and you are helping her to cover them.
My question is why do you raise the 1 month of bank statements versus more? You state that your gf met all the requirements, so I assume she submitted 6 months. What is her nationality? Did she have routine payment into her account (this is why they usually ask for six months, to verify that you actually have work, not that you had 500k for 6 months)?
DTV_BegPeckerbecause she hit all requirements yet some people are clearly winging it and getting approved. It’s just not fair is it. And yes, £1000+ each month over the last 6 months. Over 500K THB in the account. We are both affiliate marketers, I did both applications and provided the exact same proofs for work portfolio, etc. just can’t understand it
which I can recommend. It’s a bit random sometimes, so in case you are looking for DTV support or to enter as a tourist he can answer some questions for you.
Go to Laos together, have her apply there, there is a required in person interview that is apparently mostly focused on being able to prove income via your mobile phone, if everything is okay there, supposedly very high acceptance rate, unless things have changed.
The thought of going through the whole process again, travelling all the way to Laos just for them to some reason reject it would absolutely kill me. I’m absolutely gutted. Really not enjoying being in viet either… 😬
Anonymous participant Just hang out in Vientiane while the app is processing. Very charming, low key city, not that much different from Isan. You're right across the river from Thailand. What happens sucks, but both applications fees + all these travel expenses are still very low when you factor in how valuable a 5 year multiple entry visa is. Just look at how much people were paying for 5 year elite visa a few years ago. And you both want to be together, hassle free, so this is what I would do if I were you.
you’ve got a very valid point, just overwhelmed with all the stress and anxiety leading up to this point I suppose. I am hoping to get an email response explaining why on earth hers would be rejected and mine approved. Can’t comprehend it. Hopefully then that will give us some confidence to go to Laos to apply. Gutted as mainly wanted to spend our first Christmas in Thailand
Anonymous participant I'd recommend calling over emailing (saw a post a while back saying someone got a reason by calling a consulate), but from what I'm hearing, a reason for rejection is rarely given. It's just how it is. Sucks but you have to fork out the cash and apply again.
