TLDR : Answer Summary
A French citizen and his Colombian wife are seeking advice on obtaining visas to live and work in Thailand, given their plans to have a baby and start an online business. They expressed concerns about the rising crime in Colombia and are unsure whether to give birth in Medellin or Bangkok. Responses included suggestions for visa options such as the family elite visa, recommendations for lawyers, and various opinions on the birthing process in Thailand—highlighting the prevalence of C-sections and the differences between private and public health care.

Another shock if you decide to come to Thailand will be the mask wearing. Thailand has the world's highest rate of mask wearing (yes, even higher than Japan) and you'll find at hospitals, 100% of staff as well as 100% of local patients will be wearing a mask. I'd imagine for natural births, the mother should be allowed to push without being forced to wear a mask, but this probably depends on the hospital policy. Bumrungrad and Samitivej have lots of foreign patients and less likely to insist on mask wearing, but most hospitals will follow the few foreigners who come in without a mask and try to get them to put one on. It is unclear if there's still a mandate in place at hospitals, but in practice, they're wanting everyone to muzzle up with no end in sight. I think mask wearing will be permanent at Thai hospitals. Even in 5 years, it will still be practiced by everyone.

Even at the supermarket, 75-85% of locals will be wearing their beloved masks (in Bangkok), and among staff it's 100% (except in Pattaya, where you might find one staff member with their mask off or on their chins). In other cities, it's 60-75% who'll be masked up, so only slightly better. A lot better in Phuket and Pattaya, but mainly due to the large number of foreigners.

the biggest shock if he comes to Thailande would be to come across people of your kind . enough to get disgusted of the country

you are an absolute jerk. If you don’t want a vaccine or mask, don’t get one/wear one. Nothing to do with the topic at hand. Im a dirty farang but had 6 jabs and still wear the mask. I trust the OP will look at the advice he receives and make a reasonable choice about his baby

@Robert *********
this guy Is just a crazy wierdo ,..... somebody asks about giving birth , he tells him 99% are done by C. section then he talks about Covid jab and mask , he believes the earth is flat , he thinks he is better than Wikipedia , because he's been maried to a bar "girl ?" he found in Pataya . really wonder what he does on this page , giving fake news to people who just need infos . a real jerk as you say ,

I wonder if he is not writing from his Troll farm in Hungaria , just write any stupidity ,as long as he writes something
Robert **********
@Giorgio *****
most likely. Isn’t the earth flat though? Im sure I fell off and its actually nice down here!
Paul *******
You'll be better off giving birth over in Colombia. Just seems easier that way. I wouldn't come to a foreign country with my wife to give birth, besides there's no advantage for you to do so, given your children aren't eligible for Thai citizenship as neither parent is Thai.

frederik lartigues ,ne tient aucun compte des comments d'un mec qui plus loin te donne des chiffres concernant l'accouchement . ce mec est un troll qui ne peut s'empècher de parler de sujets qu'il ignore .

You're the biggest troll on here. Youve never had any babies and glad you never will. We dont need more idiots in this world. Why don't you get another booster shot?

@Paul ******
yeah and why don't you admit that you believe that Planet earth is flat , and your grand grand grand parents were born 6000 years ago they were white , and their names were Adam and Eve ..

also the last time you checked your IQ . it was flat stable at ZERO .

and their names are

@Paul ******
stupid man you are . I've got only 6 kids , and 3 grand kids

why don't you don't f*** off. and get lost in your insanity
Giorgio ******
Beware of the Troll who gives you completely fake infos just to see his name in the comments .

you wife can give birth in Thailand either : natural birth , or C section , it will depend only on her health conditions and her freewill . no doctor will force you a way or an other without explaining the reasons . you'll leave the hospital with a booklet and a CD , with diagnosis , and very detailed description of every act
Paul *******

Don't believe him. Give birth in Colombia or France. Much easier over there. Giorgio is a troll who is desperate for attention. He's never had any children, so doesn't know what he's talking about. He's also had 4 Covid shots. You can't trust someone like that.
Giorgio ******
@Paul ******
only 6 kids a.nd 3 grand children .

and unlike you , I'm not getting sucked off by a bar girl , stupidly thinking she's your wife .

Natural birth is not an option at most private hospitals, period!!!

@Giorgio *****
Nonsense. You've never had children in Thailand. Thai Doctors are like God's and will bully women into having c-sections. You know nothing!

Wow sounds complicated.

Be aware that giving birth in Thailand is highly medicalized. 99% of births are c-sections and only 1 or 2 private hospitals in the entire country seem to have a natural birth department (though at public hospitals, which are horrible by the way, mothers do stand a higher chance of giving birth naturally). If you don't want to have all the standard procedures given to Thai babies you need to have a birth plan prepared and submitted prior to giving birth, but this only works at private hospitals. At public hospitals, mothers have almost no right to refuse whatever procedures the doctor wants you or your baby to receive.

I don't know what hospitals are like in Colombia, but in Thailand, Thai mothers hand over their rights to their obstetricians and do whatever they say.
Paul *******
@Giorgio *****
You received 4 Covid vaccines. Only dummies suffering from cognitive defects would do that!
Paul *******
@Giorgio *****
You know s*** about the Thai public health system. Thais fully trust their doctors, who will schedule c-sections because it's convenient for the doctor's schedule and also for the mother.

Only 2 PRIVATE hospitals in Thailand have dedicated natural birthing suites. The rest do NOT. This information comes to me from a knowledgeable midwife who has many years of experience working in Thai hospitals.

You're a quack and your opinion is useless. Go away.
Paul *******
@Giorgio *****
What nonsense. C-sections are standard at private hospitals in Thailand. Almost every Thai woman these days has one..only at public hospitals are they not given automatically.
Paul *******
Jade Opal Jasper Only 2 private hospitals in all of Thailand have a natural birth department. The reality is that natural births are highly discouraged in the private sector and despite what may be advertised, it's usually not available in the end.

Public hospitals allow natural births quite readily because they are overwhelmed with patients.
Paul *******
@Michael *******
I know this from knowing the Thai medical system and because midwives have told me. Thai women melt in front of medical authority and will do whatever their doctor tells them to.
Paul *******
Jade Opal JasperIt's because Thai doctors can save time and to make more money. Also, Thai women don't like to be in pain so they prefer c sections.
Paul *******
@Michael *******
No, it's well above 90%. Nobody has a baby naturally in a private hospital except for the odd expat woman or Thai married to an expat who absolutely insists on it. If a baby takes too long to come out at a public hospital, the doctor automatically schedules a c section to save time.
Michael ********
@Paul ******
your a midwife are you ?

more like 35 % not 99% and 35 % is considered high

are you not aware that this troll pretend to know everything about nothing , many women in my surroundings have been giving birth in the recent .years , either in public or private hospitals , none of them had a C section because they didn't need it . but I'm sure if one of them needed a C section for whatevet reason , no doubt they would have it .

Though it's welknown that in some "hospitals", own by crooks, probably the ones where this troll goes , like to give birth doing C section witout medical or health reasons because they can charge it to you , so it's only business reasons .

luckily any intelligent person who reads 99% , understand it's either a joke , or a fakenew created by dementia and lack of cognitive capacities .

There are many foreigners living in Thailand without the need of border runs. They are employed, usually at schools as language teachers. International schools pay the best. Check out

and look up "Dave's ESL Cafe" website too. Also look at the pic below to get an idea of what a university offers (appl time has passed for this one). Steady job, monthly income, work permit, no visa runs... it is a good arrangement. I hear if you are married, the spouse may get a dependent visa, but this is not something I can comment much on. They do require a 4 yr degree about 99.9% of the time. Good luck!

Might be cheaper for you to get the family elite visa right now and do you "online" hobby than hiring 4 Thai people for the rest of your time here on the business visa.
John ******
@Us ****
Elite visa applications will be discontinued in their present form on 15th September, and what replaces them promises to be much more expensive.

The additional costs are likely to be significantly more than the cost of flights so you might wish to consider popping over to sort something out before the opportunity is lost.

Perhaps others can highlight the flaws in this suggestion!
