TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation focuses on finding trustworthy motorbike rental companies in Phuket, particularly avoiding potential scams. Users recommend different rental shops, sharing experiences and emphasizing the importance of keeping passports and licenses safe. Key suggestions include 'Cheap as Chips Motorbike Rental' in Patong and a few others, alongside reminders to use photocopies instead of handing over original documents for collateral.

Your passport is your freedom. Pay the 5000 baht deposit. You can not leave Thailand without your passport. Most places take deposits. I rent bikes to get my passport stamped so I cant leave it for them. I give them a photo copy and a deposit. I saw a drunk farang give his scooter gas when he was not on it lol. It went flying into a tuktuk. They are concerned for a good reason here. I can talk them down to 250 baht a day. I don't recommend any because they all seem to treat you like you are here for 3 days..

Yeah, your best bet is either something close to your hotel (Or ANY hotel), or one that the hotel recommends. And I have yet to find one that didn't want my passport (Although I have only rented in Phuket and Hua Hin.

If you can find a shop in Phuket that doesn’t want to hold your passport let me know please
Sorry don’t know about bike hire, but wherever you choose never give them your passport to hold as collateral. Make a photocopy and give them that if asked but never the actual passport.
you did. OK so keep your passport on you as its actually the requirement in Thailand to have it on you at all times. Not that I've ever been asked for it in 17 years however it is the rule so you can't hand it to a shop as security. 👍
that was the problem we got asked for the passport were not happy to do it that's what were asking for company they happy to accept drivers licence which we have
they shouldn’t keep your licence either. You may need to provide it at a police checkpoint. Offer a photocopy. If they refuse find another shop. There’s plenty.
