I keep hearing that visa on arrival has gone from 60 days to 30. Has that actually happened? Trying to plan my first trip to Thailand and 60 days would be just right for me
Answer summary
The visa exemption period for Thailand is currently 60 days for most nationalities, but there are discussions about reducing it to 30 days. The official change will only take effect after being published in the Royal Gazette, which has not yet occurred. As of now, travelers can still enter Thailand under the 60-day exemption, and alternative options like applying for a Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) online are available for those needing longer stays. Experts speculate that the government may postpone this change to avoid discouraging tourism during the busy season.

strange that they have not made change to 60 days visa exemption yet.....although decision has made long time ago...could it be that they will cancel that? because tourism is decreasing...
Where are you hearing this, it's not on any website if you goggle : visa excempt for Thailand how many days it states 60days: now visa on arrival is something totally different and is still for 31 countries, visa excempt stamp is for 97 countries and as I said still 60 days. What is your passport country.
They have announced a few months ago that they will reduce visa exempt arrivals for eligible countries from 60 to 30 days!
Government approved it, but as everyone is stating, it only becomes official 15 days after it's posted in the Gazette!
My guess, and only an educated guess is... Thailand is just coming out of its worst Slow Season with extremely low Tourists !
Therefor they are desperate for the busy season to start beginning September until February, hoping for many Tourists( which their economy desperately needs)
So I think they will hold off implementing the visa exempt back to 30 days , until after the busy tourist months of
Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec and January, so people can stay longer and spend their money , which will help Thailand recoup from the extremely low season they have just experienced!
It makes no sense at all for Thailand to implement the decrease of 30 days ( visa exempt right now at the start of the busy Tourist season )
I don't think Thailand would shoot themselves in the foot again!
Or maybe I'm wrong and they will ?
But I don't think 30 days visa exempt will be implemented until February !
It hasn't happene yet - but you can apply online for an SETV - a Single Entry Tourist Visa - you pay for this off the local embassy or consulate - they are valid for 60 days and can be extended in Thailand for a further 30 days for 1900 baht. THey weren't in use much with the 60 day visa free entry in place but now that looks like ending there may be a bit of a rush to get them again.
THe cost in UK is about £30 or 1000 baht, you can get one up to 3 months before your arrival date.
How do you book your air ticket ? 60 days or 30 days for your trip ?Do You want change your flight schedule ,it's cost ypu money and not quite sure you will get the flight you like .
Tammy Harris-Upton you won't be entering visa on arrival. That's only for certain countries and only 15 days. You'll probably enter visa exempt: No Visa.
Or I will cut my Thailand trip to 30 day plus an 30 day extension and spend more time in Vietnam 🤷🏻♀️, it’s cheaper and quality is higher for my dollar. We are gone from Dec 30th to May 17
Tammy Harris-Upton I don't have to understand the meaning behind it. Getting a 60 day visa in a few days, or to spend a lot more money for many hours of immigration, to get an extension.
60 day tourist visa only cost 35 euros. It’s so cheap. But if your plan is better and cheaper you don’t have to hope visa exemption stays 60 days. Enjoy your holiday
Knowing Thailand it won't go in Gazzette until 2027.Always indecisive. Now they talk want people to stay longer but want to reduce visa.Where is the logic in that?
Ian Fitton tourist visa is 60 days. The visa exempt ( no visa) is 60 days but at some point may revert to 30 days. Visa on arrival is 15 days paid for on entry but only certain countries.
Visa on arrival is something totally different than visa exemption. And yes visa exemption that still is 60 days is gonna change to 30 days. I’m going to Thailand in September and I applied online for a 60 days tourist visa. Easily done and costed 35 euros
Peter Slaman how long did it take you from submitting application for SETV to actually receive it succesfully via email? I'm visiting on Nov 30, stay for 48 days. I've been told to just wait and see, if the announcement is posted then i would have 15 days to rushingly apply for SETV then. But also i've been reading about many applicants were waiting weeks to over a month before they actually receive some sort of notification either to send extra docs, fail, or success.
Johan_Budiotso I applied for it around two weeks ago and I received the Visa 3 days later. I just wanted piece of mind and don’t have to worry about it. I recommend it to anyone
Peter Slaman I do plan to apply this tourist 60 days visa , but I unable to access my Thailand consulate in NY , it’s only applied online or person in NY .Would you kindly share how to do it ? TIA .
Lam Thu Chung depending of your passport and history, they will not probably grant you a tourist visa (no refund) since you are eligible to visa exemption. If you want a tourist visa, make sure to clarify reason when applying. 👍
Yes that’s why I did it. I’m flying 13 September and staying for 6 weeks. I know that soon 60 days visa exemption is gonna be 30 days. I just don’t know when exactly. So I just applied for a 60 day tourist visa online. Payed 35 euros and after 3 days I got the visa.
