What type of visa should I apply for after being denied entry to Thailand twice on a tourist visa?

hey guys,

I was doing a visa run (on my own, for the 2nd time of the year) in poipet, and got denied to re-enter thailand (the officer said i dont have money as i had no big cash on me and he

did not let me go to the nearest atm to prove him wrong).

I then flew from siem reap to bangkok following the advice of a cambodian officer.

I got denied to enter thailand again in bangkok, as with my first denied-access stamp on my passport they checked more my situation:

I have been living for almost 3 years in thailand using tourists visas, only going back to my country (France) something like 2-3month a year.

They told me i was living like a resident and needed a non-immigrant visa (but that part was kinda unclear). Then they put me in the detention room of the airport while i was waiting for the next paris flight.

My concern is, what kind of visa do i need (as i dont want to risk to have trouble again)? Will a student visa be enough,

or should i really go for the non-immigrant visa ?

thanks a lot

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user faced denied entry into Thailand after multiple stays on tourist visas and is seeking advice on what type of visa to apply for in the future. They've been advised to consider a Non-Immigrant visa, particularly an education visa (ED) or a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV), to avoid future complications. It was noted that they should have sufficient proof of funds and a clear intention for their stay when re-entering Thailand.

I think the O/P has enough information to make a decision

3 yrs on tourist visa man come on! you aint no tourist
Amornrat **********
I just received another DENIED ENTRY request for help, POI PET again. Guys, just avoid POI PET....
Amornrat **********
@Tod ********
not with that stamp. But if you go to Thai Embassy and get the tourist or non immigrant visa and show cash in hand it will be OK, but not on visa exempt
Tod *********
That's why I wondered if going to Lao and trying to enter by land would be better at Nong Khai than flying in because that border is so easy about letting people in.
Amornrat **********
no, in the past the people tried Ban Laem and or Ban Pakkard, but Immigration said no. They worry that this people go Immigration Bangkok and people see that Poi Pet refused entry and other border just ignore them and stamp them in . And no bribing....
Tod *********
@Amornrat *********
so if someone was denied entry to thailand on a 30 day visa exempt entry at Poi Pet, you don't think they could just go to Lao and cross into thailand at Nong Khai on a 30 day visa exempt entry? I'm asking because it could be a cheap and easy way to get in.
Amornrat **********
with a visa it would be OK, or as many people try (some pass, some not pass) by plane from Siam Reap to Bangkok.
Tod *********
Here is a question
@Amornrat *********
, do you think those people who were denied entry at Poi Pet could go to Lao and then enter by the Nong Khai border without a problem ??
Amornrat **********
Alexander, no need, no need, you have proven that you got the extension of stay and have done your 90day report.
Tod *********
The big problem was not having proof of funds. That was the reason you were denied entry period. They can't deny you entry comin' in on a visa exempt entry unless you've done TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by land this year.

When you're asked for proof of funds entering the country you MUST show cash (not a bank book, not a credit card) only cash works

Also you were only denied entry into thailand, you're not black listed or banned or anything.

As people have said, when you're back in France, get a 6 month METV then come here and search for another long term solution.

thanks i think these are good advice. Will try to follow them

The most weird thing is he also got denied even from flight arrival in BKK, with 600$ cash and return flight ticket. This is not about 2 consecutive land border crossing again. As
@David ******
said, change your passport with the new one is a good idea.

In my opinion, since you have been denied entry twice , if I were you I would have sit back at home for at least 3 months, first thing. Secondly , I am assuming you lived in Thailand only on T visas for 3 years that means your passport is bleeding with Thai stamps. Dump your current pport and get an METV of 6 months and come again and this time use T visas smartly. Good luck. Cannot tag you , it's for the OP

@Auré****
to be honest, personally what I would do is to fly to Vientiane Lao and enter thailand by the Nong Khai land border. Hands down that's the easiest land border to cross at.

I think once you were denied entry at Poi Pet if you had went to Lao you would have gotten into thailand just fine by land at Nong Khai.

yes.. i have time to do the paperwork if this is the best solution. im just worried to get denied again even with a METV if i flight back to bangkok 2week after this issue.
Tod *********
@Auré****
, WOW you had proof of funds and proof of onward travel and were still denied? :/

You aren't going to get a Non-Immigrant Type ED visa until you enroll in a school, get paperwork from them to go to a thai consulate and get a 90 day Non-ED visa.

That's why I suggested the 6 month METV so it would buy you time here to look for what school you wanted to go to, etc.

The second time in bkk i had 600$ of cash with me and a return flight ticket and still got denied the entry. Im worried about doing a METV as the main reason of the deny was that i was not living like a tourist. I feel like its kinda laughting at their system (that so well built system that
@Henri *****
is refering at). Isnt a non-immigrant ed visa better?

You choose possibly the worst border crossing in Thailand, you didn’t have the required 20k in bht or slip 200bht in your passport & you wonder why you got ‘red stamped’. The amount of time you’ve been here I would have thought some research as to lawful requirements would have seen you walk through.
Michael *********
@Tod ********
point taken, my bad. I’m not condoning it, nor a participant in such illegal practices myself.
Tod *********
I think that advice is good except for the "slip 200baht in your passport" which was a tactic when crossing into thailand at the southern borders without proof of funds.
Squid ****
Everything I told you applies to other visas too - follow the letter of Thai law and you will be fine.
Marie *******
Best option is ED visa. For a language school you can have up to a year

Aurélien Fabien I doubt it, BUT when you're back there you might ask to see if you could get a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type B visa based on the possibility of you doing business in thailand.

I know you could get them before from the thai consulates in the EU without much documentation.

I have what they call a "micro-company" in france (self-employed).

But i run my business through internet and have no reason to stay in thailand (regarding my work).

Do you think im able to get a Non Immigrant B visa with this situation ?
Robert *******
There is also the option for the Non Immigrant B visa if you work in Thailand, apply with papers form your employer. Non Immigrant Volunteer visa, apply with papers from volunteer organisation. There are so many options, or even try the Thai Elite Visa as mentioned by others.
James ***********
ok, i guess i didnt exactly offer anything very usefull in my comment.

so hey, you are more fortunate than many if you are needing to go back to France

months per year.

An METV is perfect for you as can nearly get 9 months in Thailand out of it if done right.

and you will most probably never be questioned about it at airports.

if they have difficult requirements, then try ringing the consulate. sometimes they will tell you not to worry about certain things.
Robert *******
Well than we have to know some details: For Non Immigrant O you must be over 50 years old, or married to a Thai National. For Non Immigrant O-A you need to be over 50 years old and have medical statement and police record check and some finances. For Non Immigrant ED visa you need to follow a course, what do you like to study and where. Or as I already mentioned the METV.

Thanks 🙏

No, the issue is not being a long term tourist.

If you constantly try to rock up scrounging VEs you no doubt look WORSE than a long term tourist in the eyes of IOs.

no wonder they reject these guys.

they probably suspect hes up to no good or having to work illegally or pulling some scam in Thailand.

how do you live that long without income.

SO, just get a damn visa.

if thats to expensive then maybe its time to consider a different direction in life
Robert *******
Best thing is to apply for the Multiple Entry Tourist Visa when back in your country. That will give you 270 of stay if correct used. Make sure on every entry you have the minimum of 20.000 Thb cash, proof of onward travel and proof of accommodation with you. Also bring along proof of income from abroad. You are stopped for not enough money in cash, so no funds to provide for a living, and it is understandable, how can somebody live in Thailand for 3 years without income.
Robert *******
Better not confirm this, admitting to work in Thailand will open another can of worms when using tourist visa.

Intending to stay most of each year (6-9 months) look at METV, non-imm-o, or education visa options. Trying to stay long term on consecutive SETVs and visa-exempts will fail at some point (and apparently already has).
Ian ***************
At some point it becomes fairly obvious he/she is not a "tourist", at the discretion of immigration (or consular) officer each time, they can say "no". Agree proof of funds was missing in this case, but no 100% guarantee with so many repeat In-Out-In's

It only fails when you do not meet the requirements - If this dude had 20,000 baht,a hotel booking, and a plane ticket out of thailand, he would have been let in. There is no limit on entries nor visas.
James ***********
Frank and Stephen, lol, you guys are taking the piss right?

the guy sounds like hes been scrounging for years, pushing his luck with as many VE's as possible.

you really think he can afford elite?

lol
Stephen ******
There’s always the five year one for ThB 500,000 if he doesn’t have the two million.
Squid ****
To be honest, I do a similar thing - based out of BKK but don't technically live here.For the record, I certainly don't work in thailand. If you are going to bounce in and out with visas, trips home and border hops, you need to make sure that you have EVERYTHING. I carry 700$ in USD whenever I enter Thailand, I also have plane ticket out and hotel booking. You would have been fine if you had 20k cash in baht.
Khan *************
you're doing a ping-pong visa entry to the Kingdom of Thailand. If you do such ping-pong entry for several times, the Thai officers will not let you in.
