What are the best options for booking onward tickets and applying for a DTV in Thailand?

I'm flying to Bangkok next week with Indigo Airlines (ams-mum-bkk) (one-way). I want to prepare for my DTV (deposit enough cash into my Thai account) and marry my fiancée at the end of the year. I want to take advantage of the first 60-90 days (60-day stamp / 30-day extension). This is where the uncertainty begins, as Indigo's support is very unreliable and I can't reach the check-in counter. I don't want to get into trouble, but I also don't want to waste money unnecessarily with onward tickets that aren't accepted or bus/train tickets that aren't recognized either. As I understand it, I can't use the 90 days without buying a ticket I wouldn't use. As a European, there don't seem to be any "cancellation" tickets; as I understand, that only applies to US citizens. Do you have any tips on how best to do this? Is it best to fly to Malaysia? Or are there cheaper options? Is it possible to buy tickets through Expedia? (They are cancelable or flexible).

And another question: is it still possible to get a DTV from a dentist about braces?

Just book a very cheap ticket, AirAsia online, to Vientiane Lao, for 59 days after you plan on arriving into Thailand. As of today 2,540 baht, one way (USD 80)

I did it before, and it’s accepted. It’s a ticket back out of Thailand.

You go to the immigration office in the province you are living in before your 60 day visa exempt stamp is finished and apply to stay another 30 days. After then you do have to get out of Thailand.

You will have to go out of Thailand anyway to apply for your DTV. I suggest go to HCMC, Vietnam and apply online with the Thai embassy in HCMC. Providing your application goes smoothly, it is taking around 7 working days to get approved and visa issued.

In Laos it’s taking much longer for DTV applications, 2 to 3 weeks in some cases

My advice would be to fly to a neighboring country and arrange your DTV from there (Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia,Indonesia). First of all its much more practical and cheaper to arrange your DTV from there. Currently I have applied for my DTV Thai Cooking course through House of Taste in BKK which offers a very professional service for DTV, can highly recommend! For flight confirmations you can use

but to be honest i would highly recommend partnering with house of taste with the DTV support package and they can help you with all your questions and experience to minimize the risk of rejection!

Anyway you have to leave after 90 days and when you want to apply for DTV you have to fully out, so easy to book a ticket for it

For air ticket I have one solution when you need a return ticket to check in but you are not sure about the return date. I can issue one way ticket to go and the day of departure I will give you the return ticket to check in ( once you get through immigration on arrival we will cancel this return ticket. As an agent we can cancel ticket free of charge the same day) then you don’t have to pay change / refund fee

Traveling as tourist ( visa exempt or visa ) you need to have a onward ticket within the days allowed by that visascheme ( 60 days ).

So if going for visa exempt 60 + 30 days you need 3 tickets.

1. Ticket to Thailand.

2. Ticket out of Thailand within 60 days from arrival, can be any ticket bus or flight.

3. Ticket out of Thailand ( going home ).

Before day 60 extend with 30 days at a Immigration office, cost 1900 Baht, (look at that Immigration office website for needed documents).

DTV has to be applied for outside of Thailand, preferably in you homecountry.

FWIW, DTV needs to be applied in an embassy outside of Thailand.

The 500k baht for the DTV does not need to be in a Thai bank account, btw.

And services like onwardticket work fine.

Simply buy a full-fare economy ticket from the airline of your choice, if everything works out as you plan, you might not need it and can cancel for a full refund anytime

There are a lot of possibilites to buy flight tickets.

In my experience the best customer service is always with airlines themselves.

Tickets you can cancel are not only for US citizens, everybody can buy.

From Amsterdam there are a lot better flight tickets available to Bangkok, even a number of direct flights. Why choose the uncertainty you are afraid for?

sometimes you just get the service you pay for...

you can't expect much customer service for such a cheap ticket.

onwardticket.com $14 it is valid for 48 hours, so buy just before you fly, although I doubt anyone would check if it's valid. Buy the ticket for travel within the initial 60 days

Bus from Nong Khai to Vientiene is about 140 Baht. Book on 12Go I think it is.
