Hi everyone, we’re planning to go to Thailand in February and in the process of organising our visa and CoE. I’ve seen posts about making sure you have onward travel booked but we’re unsure of our plans and hope to extend our Single Entry Tourist VISA by a month so the date and route for our flight out is unknown.

I’m sure I’ve seen someone in this very helpful group reference a website where you can book cheap flexible onward travel flights which could be cancelled & refunded really easily. I’ve tried to search posts for this comment but can’t track it down.

Does anyone know if proof of onward travel is needed?

And does anyone have details of a website that you could use to book cheap and refundable flights?

Thanks all 🤞🏻

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the requirements for proof of onward travel when applying for a Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) for Thailand. Some commenters argue that proof may not be necessary while others suggest it is wise to have a ticket ready just in case. Additionally, several tips on booking refundable flights are provided, including using Expedia for flexible bookings.

It is always smart to have an onward ticket purchased on hand for your SETV. You never know if the immigration officer feels like extra motivated on their work day. You don't want to get caught unprepared.

You DO need proof of onward travel when applying for a SETV. But I there is a trick almost everyone does.... Book on Expedia (24 hour free/no fee cancelation. Book your tickets. Print out the required info. Cancel ticket. Everyone who does border bounces does this.

if your on a TR visa then you do not need to have outbound flight confirmation. I came in on friday without it and was not questioned at all. On my T6 i put 60-90 days of duration of stay,

You don't need proof of onward travel.

As for a website, in situation when I do need proof of onward travel just print your confirmation email as a PDF. Open the PDF and change the dates and Airline, then email it to yourself.
