Dear Sirs and Madames

I have been living in Thailand for over 10 years and today I am reading a Guardian Visa for the first time.

I have 2 sons in Thailand 5 + 6 years old.

Both have German and Thai passports. The 6 year old is coming to the government school in Koh Samui in June. For the past 3 years he has been in a Thai kindergarten. The 6 year old lives with me permanently.

For the past 10 years I have always had a Non Immigrant O-A Visa. A lot of paperwork every year and 800,000 baht on my Thai account. Do I also need so many papers for the Guardian Visa? Does that only apply for 1 year?

What is the Advantage from a Guardian Visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the requirements and advantages of obtaining a Guardian Visa in Thailand, particularly in relation to their experience with the Non Immigrant O-A Visa. They seek clarification on the paperwork needed for the Guardian Visa, which they are considering as their child is starting school in Koh Samui.

I guess you visit every year the Immigration Office and apply for a 1 year Extension of Stay and each year you get a new stamp in your passport.

You can apply for the Extension of Stay based on family members but you need to be the legal parent with document from court or ampur.

As Koh Samui is not the biggest island in Thailand, stop next time at the Immigration office and pick up the hand out for both extensions and you can easily see the difference in requirements and needed documents
