TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on renewing or changing their Thai visa, currently on a multi-entry marriage visa set to expire while in the process of divorce. They have the necessary funds for a retirement visa but are concerned about the 2-month seasoning rule. Comments suggest options for transitioning to a retirement visa or applying for a Non-O visa without seasoning, as well as the importance of the type of visa held prior to divorce.

Now in all honestly it doesn't really make much difference ๐Ÿ˜ฎ because they clearly won't have the 800K baht seasoned the required 2 months when their current stamp (what ever it is) runs out to apply for a reason change if they're on an extension

the way it works IS,

IF they are on a yearly extension (from the immigration office) the day they sign the divorce decree at the Amphur their extension needs to be cancelled and they need to get out of dodge (because they clearly stated they won't meet the requirements to change the reason for the extension from one based on marriage to one based on retirement)

Where as,

IF they happen to be on a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa (from a thai consulate) where they bounce out/back every 90 days. Even if they get divorced, they can stay and keep using that visa bouncing out and back every 90 days until it runs out

I would say given the O/P's statement that they will not have the funds seasoned the 2 months when they get the divorce finalized, that once that happens they should go to a thai consulate in a nearby country and apply online for a 90 day Non-O visa (there is no seasoning of the funds for that visa, just show it in your account on the day you apply)

OR

they should bounce out/back to get OFF the stamp they're on now, and on to a 60 day free stamp entry THEN apply in country at their immigration office for the 90 day Non-O visa for 2000baht (again no seasoning required [except at Jomtien office] for the 800K baht on the initial 90 day Non-O..

Those would appear to be their choices,

I had closed the thread and messaged the O/P to try to hash out if they were on an extension of stay from inside the country OR a year-multi visa from outside the country ๐Ÿ™ but they didn't see the messages so I decided to just write the answers here

I changed from marriage to retirement once my marriage visa ended. And yes am still married.

@Nik ****
I would wager you weren't on any VISA, and instead you'd been on a year extension of stay based on marriage (from the immigration office) and all you did was "change the reason" for your extension from marriage to a thai to retirement

@Tod ********
yep true. Thatโ€™s what I did to tell the Op

You need the 800k in the day you apply for the initial visa, after that the money does the seasoning in that time, after that you get the extension.

You only need the money seasoned for an extension. I'm not sure if you can swap marriage to retirement extension.

If you are with Bangkok bank then there is what Tod posted yesterday about 4 months.

He is already on a Non-O extension so cannot apply for a different Non-O in country but can apply for an extension for a different reason hence the seasoning requirement

@Andrew ********
he is on a Non-O extension so cannot get a new Non-O in country, just change the reason for the extension hence the seasoning
Lloyd ********
ask your wife to delay by 2 months the divorce, get your normal marriage extension, then divorce in 2 months, take your divorce and your bank stuff to immigration to change the reason of extension to retirement.
