Do I need to wait for the 800,000 Baht to be in my Bangkok Bank account for 3 months before applying for a Non-Immigrant O retirement Visa in Jomtien?

I am an American and I arrived in Thailand 2 days ago on a Visa Exempt entry. I now want to apply for a non-immigrant O retirement Visa at Jomtien Immigration. I have a Bangkok Bank account established but have yet to transfer the 800,000 Baht into it yet. Question: Does Jomtien Immigration require 3 months seasoning BEFORE I can apply? I am getting conflicting information on this. Please advise... Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
An American resident who recently entered Thailand on a Visa Exempt status is inquiring whether Jomtien Immigration requires a 3-month seasoning period for 800,000 Baht in a local bank account prior to applying for a Non-Immigrant O retirement visa. Community responses clarify that there is no seasoning required for the visa itself, but once the visa is obtained, the bank funds must have been in the account for at least 2 months for extension purposes. Additional suggestions include applying for a 30-day extension to allow time for the necessary processes.

I would suggest you first apply for a 30 day extension of stay to give yourself more time to get through the process of a 90 day non O.

Good suggestion
@MC *******
While it's not that involved a process, seeing as they need a minimum of 15 days left on their current stamp to apply for the 90 day Non-O getting their regular 30 day extension will take the pressure off them (y)

you might want to take MC's advice 🙂

Yes, I was thinking of that. That's what I will do. My bank transfer will take up to 10 days anyway so makes sense.👍🏻

Is the non OA the only way to extend your stay once you enter with non O ? Thanks

@Daniel ****
you can't extend your stay with a Non-OA entering on an O visa you are mistaking two different visa categories completely.

you can buy an O visa inside the country if you meet the requirements you get an OA visa in your country before you come here

Can you tell me where I can find a current list of required documents needed for Jomtien Immigration for my Non Immigrant O visa application based on being over 50 years of age? This would save me a trip of going all the way down there just to find out. Thanks!

@Patrick *****
the most recent and updated list you find at the Immigration Office or at a local Facebook group if a person likes to share it with you.

Once you have this Non Immigrant O visa, you can apply after 60 days for the Extension of Stay based on being over 50 years of age.

For this the money needs to be in a Thai bank account on your name for at least 2 months prior application until 3 months after application date and rest of the year not less than 400.000 Thb. Pattaya Immigration can ask you to come back 3 months after you have this Extension to show your bank book again.

To apply for a conversion of your Visa Exempt Entry into a Non Immigrant O visa based on being over 50 years of age there is NO seasoning of money required.

There must be a bank letter that the money is on a Thai account on your name and a second letter that the money came from abroad.

I think you guys need to make it very clear. I came in on a 30 exempt and transferred the 800k from my wife’s account to mine. And also had to find a government official person to verify who I am at the time of opening the account. Then it had to season for the required 2 months and then had to provide the letter from bank. I keep reading so many of these requests and seems the answers are changing all the time.🤪

Answers do not change.You did NOT apply for the Non Immigrant O visa based on being over 50 years of age, but you applied for an Extesnion of temporary stay in the Kingdom and got a big stamp with a new 1 year period.

@Robert ******
are you referring to me? I am here on a retirement visa based on being over 50 🧐. I’m not here on an extension of stay.

@BD ******
Please show me as for application of Non Immigrant O visa there is no requirement of 2 months seasoning of money.

@Robert ******
what if I bring most of the money in cash from US! Thanks

@Jim *******
you cannot use CASH put into your thai bank account in your name only to get an in country 90 day Non-O visa issued.

However,

IF you showed up here on a Non-O 90 day visa you could use a cash deposit because there is no proof of funds origin to get the year extension just the 2 months seasoning rule.

@Jim *******
then you need to declare it at the customs at the BKK airport. They will give you a receipt, and with this receipt you can prove at the Immigration that you brought the money in from abroad

@Nongnuch *******
thanks so much

You apply always for a NEW Extension of Stay or as you asked for a NEW Non Immigrant O visa, so you have to meet the requirements.

That you had in the past is nice but can not be used today
