What are my options for extending my NON-OA visa and health insurance while in Thailand?

Hi all

I am a 51 Y-O Canadian citizen on an NON-OA visa with expiration date Nov 19 2021.

I initially entered Thailand on December 05 2020 with Health insurances for a year. (until December 03 2021).

I travelled out and came back yesterday (Nov. 1st) and was able to use the same health insurance contract, but they stamped me until (December 03 2021).

Now, I realize that I should have purchased an insurance extension for a year in order to get stamped for a full year.

Since I still have more than 15 days on my visa and on my entry stamp, I am now wondering what is the best course of action for me.

1- Purchase health extension for one year and, somehow, get extension on my NON-OA for the coming year? (but this will still require me to buy re-entry permits every time I got out). Can I get new stamp for a year without leaving Thailand on an NON-OA?

2- Apply for a Multiple Entry Non-O visa based on being over 50 years old. This would eliminate the need for health insurance. But I cannot find any information about how to apply for a "Multiple Entry Non-O visa based on being over 50 years old", only single entry.

Looking at various web pages, I see single entry informations [members only]

Or the actual law, but not translated in English... and I cannot, YET, read Thai. [members only]

Benjamin Hays has been recommending various extensions methods but I cannot figure out which is best for me.

I have embassy letter acknowledging my income.

I have money in Canadian bank.

I already did the background check in the Non-OA process last year.

Please advise.

Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Canadian citizen on a NON-OA visa is seeking advice on extending their visa and health insurance while remaining in Thailand. They have two primary options: 1) Extend their health insurance for another year and apply for an extension of their NON-OA visa without leaving Thailand. 2) Apply for a Multiple Entry Non-O visa targeted at individuals over 50, which would require exiting Thailand to obtain. Community comments suggest that the first option is feasible, allowing for a one-year extension based on retirement, while the second option typically involves applying for a visa outside of Thailand.

You are already here in Thailand with Non-OA entry stamp. Your option which you can do without leaving Thailand is option 1 only.

If the Thai embassy in your home country sells Non-O multiple entry, you can fly home to purchase it and back (that doesn't sound much reasonable). But gettig Non-O (single or multiple entry) at a Thai embassy/consulate in your home country or another lets you go for the route without purchasing an insurance policy from a Thai company.

Or if you want, you can apply for a Covid extension on or before 26 Nov to have a bit of time (2 more months from the application date) to sort out your route.

You're making a bit of an issue out of the multi re-entry. Once you have your full year extension at the same time buy a multiple re-entry permit, or a single if you only plan to leave once during that current stamped in time.

You can do that. You have until your "admitted to" stamp to get a one year extension of stay based on retirement from a Non-OA stamp.

A Multiple Entry Non-O visa is not being sold to my knowledge. A single entry Non-O visa based on being over 50 is being sold at consulates outside of Thailand, which will let you stay in Thailand for 90 days. You can then use that to get a one year extension of stay based on being over 50. You must leave Thailand to get this Non-O visa.

You only have the first option. Your second scenario is not possible. You need to leave and re-enter to get the Non-O (50+)

I would say, go for option 1, puchase another 1 year health insurance.

Go before 3rd Dec to Immigration and apply for the 1 year Extension of Stay and when stamped in your passport apply for the Multiple Re-Entry Permit, cost 3.800 Thb so you can travel until your new permitted up to date.
