Dears,

I am a Canadian who arrived in Thailand on 16 DEC 2019 with a one-year non-imm O-A (retirement) visa.

It is already time to seek how to extend my visa. Could you please advise me on how to proceed? Here is the basic information;

- my non-imm O-A visa is valid until 02 DEC 2020 (as mentioned on the visa itself).

- the immigration stamp in the passport (received on arrival last year) indicates: admitted until 15 DEC 2020.

- my next 90-day reporting is due on 24 NOV 2020.

How shall I proceed from here to extend my visa?

I thank you ahead and send you my very best regards

Andre

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, a Canadian with a non-immigrant O-A retirement visa expiring on December 2, 2020, seeks advice on extending their visa. Responses indicate that to extend the visa, the user needs to meet financial requirements (such as having 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account), obtain health insurance, and visit the immigration office with appropriate documentation. It is suggested that the extension application can be made within 30 days of the entry stamp, which is valid until December 15, 2020. Overall, it emphasizes verifying specific local immigration requirements.

Thanks Guys for the comments so far... Yes indeed, I shall have mentioned from the beginning that I fulfil all the criteria: 800k+ Bahts in Thailand, Health insurance and the Thai wife. Now, from your comments, I understand that I have to visit the immigration with documents proving the criteria mentioned above, together with the extension application (how is this extension called?). One more question; in terms of timing, when shall I do that? Before, during or after my next 90-day reporting (due on 24 NOV)? Thanks again...

Your 90 day reporting date and in fact your visa validity date have nothing at all to do with your yearly extension :O

It's the entry stamp that controls when you apply for your new extension.
Tod *********
you can apply for your yearly extension when you have 30 days or less left on your current ENTRY STAMP <-( which you said is valid until 15 Dec 2020).

@Ja***
. Just on that. His stamped in date is 15 Dec, although Visa expires 2 Dec, I assume his extension would run from 15 Dec, or from the date he applies?

@James *******
I'm in the same OA boat & should have done a border run before
****
....... ๐Ÿ˜ข Extended until November then have to get a new one ๐Ÿ˜•
James ********
@Bobby *******
yes...but to get the second year (unlikely) he would have to do a border run by Dec 2.

@Bobby *******
hmmm...I thought he said the ending date of his OA visa was December 5, 2020. That is end of first year? And by border hop and back would stamp in for added one year ?
Bobby ********
@James *******
. Yes you're right. He must have entered the first time when his visa was a couple of weeks old, hence the Dec 15 stamp. I'll get rid of that comment so it doesn't confuse anyone!

Andre...Are you married to a Thai or Father of a Thai child ?

If married...no health insurance required and only 400,000 Thai baht in Thai.bank required ๐Ÿ˜Š
Bobby ********
Yes! Very important as
@Greg ******
has stated. Make sure the dosh is in the account at least 60 days before applying. And not ONE BAHT under.
James ********
You are in your first year of the O-A visa.

IF a Thai border opens and you can exit and reenter before December 2 you woulf be stamped in for one added year.

However that appears doubtful...due to COVID.

SO in order to extend the OA inside Thailand...you will need to visit your immigration office and get their list of requirements to do so.

Likely will find the need to meet the financial requirements of the one year Extension of Stay. If your Embassy provides an affidavit of income...get it. Or show 800,000 Thai baht banked in your name only Thai bank.

You will need to have a health insurance policy which meets the 400,
******
,000 Thai baht requirements purchased from an approved Thai insurer.

The most important thing for you to do is season your money for an extension
Bobby ********
Make sure you have a Thai bank account with 800k in it, take an insurance policy from one of the approved companies, pay 1900 baht, fill in the extension form. Check with your local IO of their requirements
