Is anyone able to give me advice on doing a Tourist Visa in Singapore ? British passport holder. It is for my son who is changing from his Non B and needs time to change onto his visa with Bangkok University. Non B is almost up so we need more time as the University needs at least a month on his current visa to process the paperwork. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We don't want to border bounce, want to get a proper visa - 60 day with option to extend by 30. TIA. We are in Hatyai so Singapore is close and we have not been there before so maybe want to take the opportunity to see it !

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks guidance on obtaining a Tourist Visa in Singapore due to the impending expiration of their son's Non-B visa. They prefer to apply for a 60-day Tourist Visa with an option to extend by 30 days. Suggestions include utilizing Singapore's online visa application system and checking the Thai Embassy in Singapore's website for detailed information. One comment also advises on the distinction between different types of visas, suggesting that if the Non-B is an extension rather than a visa, it should be canceled along with the work permit.

If his non-b is an extension rather than a visa he should cancel it and his work permit also

that is the thing - we haven't done an extension - they extended for him by one month because they employed him knowing he was off to study. The stamp ends on the 17th. His employer is offering to do an extension or for him to finish this month - I feel it is pointless to extend one more month ?

They were missing a document from Head Office in Bangkok when they did the extension so they added a month. Time us running out and am wondering what we should do next. He is still working but we trying to figure out if it's time to stop and go sort Uni visa !

that's an under consideration stamp. This is usually when you have applied for an extension but it has to go higher up the chain for approval. But they are normally approved, so before doing anything I'd suggest you go to immigration and ask their advice.

yea they were waiting for document from HO as he is working on Samui. He just had a meeting with HR and they suggest we let them do his extension and it gives him until next year to sort the University one out. IF they are willing to do it and have no problem with the fact he needs to leave there soon I guess we will go with that !

I'm not sure of the legality of that. Normally when you get an extension you sign a form saying you will inform immigration of any change of circumstances and stopping work would surely count for that. I'd advise you go talk to immigration in Surat Thani which is where that under consideration stamp appears to come from. I wouldn't go by what HR says

I think they are also wanting him to stay a little longer - that is what it sounds like! They are super co-operative so I think he should extend and this week we will begin with the University paperwork and figure out the change over. He is still employed and working so no need to inform immigration otherwise as yet. When the time comes we will

just remember you need to return to immigration as per the date on that under consideration stamp.

, if you mean he is already after his first 90 days from Non-B by "they extended for him by one month", he NEEDS to cancel his extension before he leaves Thailand.

if you haven't extended what does it say in his passport for how long he can stay? If he's on a visa it can't be cancelled only an extension should be but I've never heard of a 30 day extension for a Non-B

Singapore has their own online application system. You apply for SETV through their system, by uploading all necessary documents. If lack of documents, they let you know by email or on the system. Once the visa application is approved they let you know when you can go to the embassy to submit all documents (that you uploaded online) again now physically. Then you will get your visa on a directed day (usually on the next working day). So some people start the application process even before they fly to Singapore.

It could be rejected or voided after applying in person for your visa if you submit different documents or there are covid extension stamps in your passport.

Start checking the Thai Embassy in Singapore website for detail. You should find all the necessary information there. It is no non-sense embassy.

thank you so much ! No covid extensions - he was on an Education visa with his high school for 4 years, changed onto a Non B as was working in the gap between finishing school and starting University. Non B still valid. Now he needs to begin his studies at BU and they are going to do his Education visa but we just need some time in the interim. Do you recommend a SETV or should we do a border bounce and just get 30 day visa exempt and then extend by 30 ? He is 18y turning 19y

@Li**
, Sorry, it is totally your decision. Border-bounce for 30 days visa exempt entry and could be applied for 30 days tourism extension.

SETV is for 60 days of entry and is eligible for 30 days tourism extension.

Check with his university how long he needs to have on his stamp for the Non-ED procedure. Visa itself needs to be applied with minimum remaining days on the current stamp. There still may or may not be some additional procedures for getting approval.
