Answer summary
The user asks whether using Wise to deposit 800,000 baht into a Thai bank account is acceptable. Comments suggest that using a SWIFT transfer or directly from a foreign bank is preferable, ensuring that sufficient documentation is provided. Several commenters mention concerns regarding Wise now showing as local transfers and advise considering test transfers before sending larger sums. Users recommend declaring the transfer as for long-term living in Thailand to facilitate international transfer verification.

Has anybody tried firstdirect bank they advertise zero transfer fees but i dont know if it applies bank to bank, it has no fees at atm
Wise is fine. There is a section where you declare that it’s an international transfer, and another section where you specify what the transfer is for.
Wise is cheaper by far. The banks take about .5 bht exchange rate, wise doesn't. Wise takes a fee but is still a better overall price. Also if you mark international transfer it shows up on your statement that way.
Wise no longer shows as international. Swift transfer in your countries currency. Do not transfer in THB. It will be converted at a better rate and show as international
Robert Lummis My Wise account is in the UK. Each time I make a transfer I am offered the option of 'Proof of Foreign Transaction'. I have seen people saying don't use Wise - all I can say is that I've been using them for years without any problems and my cash arrives in Thailand within a few seconds. Only once has it taken longer - around 2 hours I seem to remember.
Phil Wilson This is the key to the new Wise reality: Having your registered Wise address in your home-country... This keeps it showing as international transfers, if that's how you choose to label it.
Robert Lummis good point........I wouldn't go near wise having experienced what I have ..
Pocket money ok, nothing more. You can be rather randomly frozen at any point in time...then spend a month or more on the phone and computer to fix it, temporarily before it happens again
Robert Lummis, if you choose 'funds for long-term living in Thailand' as the reason for the transfer, then it will show in your bank as an international transfer. You can also request a receipt for a foreign transaction.
Ulf Löfven My bank charges nothing Ulf but they are 1.5 baht difference and even though wise charge me 300 australian on 800k its way cheaper than the bank.
Alan Moore OK. Will, as i wrote, this is the situation in Sweden. My 2M THB transfer was 20k THB cheaper with my bank than with Wise and Revolut. I have both Wise and Revolut. It is normally cheaper when transferring lower amounts but obviously not when transfer bigger amounts.
It is best to do it as a lump sum using the SWIFT b2b transfer directly from your foreign bank to your Thai bank, with the fully accepted documentation with the bank, if you ever want to transfer it out of Thailand in a lump sum.
yes, also this is trackable and offers you the option to withdraw your money back to your originating country. I believe you need to obtain a pink transfer slip from the bank and you want to keep that on hand whenever you need to or want to return that money to your originating country
Sylvia Corley be careful for using wise. Wise makes domestic transactions instead.. i mean like you pay to wise from your home country. When wise deposit into your account it is from wise Thailand. In this case you still can't transfer out the money by claiming it is an intentional funding
