TLDR : Answer Summary
The old Non-O multi-entry visa does not have a direct equivalent. For marriage, the only option is a single entry Non-O visa with yearly extensions. For retirees, the Non OA visa serves as a one-year multi-entry visa, meeting the requirements for self-funded retirees. The Non OA could be a suitable option for those wanting to return to their home country occasionally.

You can go for the 90 days Non-O based on retirement and then do a 1 year extension. Then get a multi re-entry permit and visit Aus whenever you want.

two exits a year would be better with two single permits at 1000B each unless the OP also does the odd border hop

Correct, but I suggested the multi re-entry permit and said he can visit Aus "whenever" he wants. But,yes 2x1000 baht is less than 3.800 baht. ๐Ÿ‘

But you need to open a Thai bank account and deposit 800k baht to be able to apply for the 1 year extension at the local immigration office.

You need to find a place to stay, get a residence certificate from immigration, a hotel address is officially not accepted, open a bank account and transfer those 800k within 30 days. Those 800k has to be in your account 2 months prior to the day you apply for the 1 year extension.

Well, the O-A is a multi entry visa, but requirements differ a bit.

Depends on the reason. For marriage there is no alternative other than single entry (and you get yearly extensions).

For retirement you can get a Non OA which is a year long multiple entry visa.
