What is the limit for TOTAL days as a tourist in a year?

Eg: I travel in/out of Thailand often, within the same tourist visa expiration date-

Is there a limit to the total number of days or visas, I’m allowed in the country as a tourist?

Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
There is no official limit on the total number of days a tourist can stay in Thailand within a year; however, it is at the discretion of the immigration officer upon each entry. While travelers can re-enter using visa-exempt stamps or multiple-entry tourist visas, frequent entries may lead to questioning by immigration officials regarding the purpose and duration of their stays. Although there are no strict regulations, staying in Thailand long-term without the appropriate visa may attract scrutiny, and it is advisable to plan travels accordingly.

All depends on the immigration officer on the day Whether they think you are Abusing the system

No official limit, but would be better if there was one- maybe no limit on entries, but maximum 180 days per calendar year on visa exemptions. That way everyone would know the rules and would ensure it wasn’t possible to live in Thailand without a longer term visa.

No rules,my neighbor works off shore on the North Sea he has been coming on an exempt stamp every other month for the 15 years I’ve known him he been questioned a few times but always let in sometimes it’s the amount of time you spend here not the number of entries he only stays no more than a month at a time

No limit per se. And it long tourism is the intent, there should be no issues. But multiple visa exempt entries will likely attract some immigration questioning at some point.

how do you determine tourist intent?

do you have the money to support yourself. Do you have a ticket out. What are your activities in Thailand? Where do you live? How long do you plan to stay?. One can reasonably expect questions like that at some point if multiple entries

There’s no set limit

no limit

Well you seem to have a multiple entry tourist visa? Then you can reenter as many times as you want until the visa expires.

There is no policy or rule. It is at the discretion of the immigration officer each time you enter Thailand. They've been cracking down hard on people trying to stay in Thailand long term without the proper visa since visa exempt went to 60 days. Many people have been pulled out of line at the airport and grilled after only the first time of leaving and returning. This isn't a game you want to play right now.

I agree. As I travel offen in and out of Thailand this last time I was pulled out and they demanded to see a onward ticket out of Thaialnd I believe next time I will not be so lucky . I will maybe stay out for 6 months next time . They had a whole set at the immigration check in point just for checking onward tickets and questioning .

it’s stupid actually because they wouldn’t need all these check points if they would actually create a rule mentioning how long you are allowed to stay as a tourist on a visa, or visa exempt.

A rule is not a rule unless it is clear enough for anyone to know whether they are breaking it or not.

I agree . Many people on here state where braking the rules by coming in and out of Thailand so much throu out the year . But truly what is the rule of number of times you can come and go ? Yes it's up to the Immigration officer but where is this said rule many say we brake ? YES YES I know I will get comments to get proper visa and I am ready for your attacks 🤣😅
