Just a quick question : For how many months (maximum) do dtv visa holders are allowed to stay outside of Thailand ?
Answer summary
DTV visa holders are permitted to stay outside of Thailand for the entire duration of their visa, which can last up to five years (60 months). After the visa expires, they can continue to stay outside indefinitely. Despite various opinions on entry and exit, the consensus is that there is no strict limit on the time spent outside Thailand, allowing for flexible travel options.

If I was admin, I would remove the post. How ridiculous is this question?

Let me count ... the visa is for 5 years, a year has 12 months ... I think that would be 60 months?

Did I make a mistake?

My understanding is that the DTV is not to be used for visa runs per se but that going back to your home country is expected. Otherwise its akin to a residency visa. Thats my take FWIW. I"m happy to be corrected. (*Its all about good faith.)

You 100 percent do understand it correctly.

That is also why stays are set to be 180 days.

When you with or without a visa have to travel to a border and exit and re-enter you should understand that never was meant to do that way, but just is to (legally) trick the system.

Incorrect. Watch the original introductory video. Very clearly explains the choice of extension or exit/reentry at 180 days and exit at 360. Nothing about what you believe to be the way it was meant to be. Absolutely no trick involved, legal or otherwise.

That is your opinion. Not fact. The fact is a DTV holder can exit/reenter same day at both the 180 and 360 day points if they so wish. The reports of problems with same day returns relate to visa exempt people. Even those can be avoided by paying for a border run/bounce van service.

I have the full right to say that in my opinion

is 100 percent correct, why do you always try to derail this kind of discussions.

You are completely unable to add something usefull, you only like to keep telling others are incorrect when they not agree witjh your strange vision on the world.

And in fact you just completely confirm my opinion, the stay is 180 days, and can be extended once to 360 days, and then it is over and you have to LEAVE the country.

Why do you think they tell you to LEAVE?

Do you think that they really want you to come back the next minute? That is 100 percent sure tricking the system, even when you shout thousand times it is not, but that might be a defect somewhere in your brains.

I don't think that there's a limit on how long you can stay out of Thailand.

As long as you'd like. Come and go as you please for the next 5 years

ChiangMaiRemoteWorker If you want to go before 180 days after you arrive, you are right, but say you can go as you please is just not correct.

People can never enter until the very last day of validity for their visa, and still be stamped in for 180 days.
Luit *****************

@Marianne *******
That has to be seen in a few years, maybe you get a 180 day stamp, maybe you get stamp till end of visa valid period.

That's the way all the other visas work. There's no reason to think this will be different.

It'a a tourist Visa and not a green card. Even if you only come to Thailand for a two-week holiday during the entire five-year period, that's perfectly fine and you won't lose your visa.

They are allowed to stay outside of Thailand the whole duration of their visa and after their DTV expires, they are still allowed to stay outside of Thailand indefinitely
