Hello.

German guy here… I have now 60days visa exemption/ visa on arrival when I arrive via international flight. I am looking for information if it’s the same or not when I enter Thailand via land border. I was reading that it’s the same but I just found one article that says so. German auswärtiges Amt or Thai embassy have no helpful/ clear information about that (or I am not able to find it)

Thx in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A German expat is inquiring if the 60-day visa exemption applies equally when entering Thailand via land borders as it does when arriving by air. The consensus among commenters is that the 60-day exemption is the same regardless of the mode of entry, whether by air, land, or sea. There was some discussion about past changes in regulations—specifically, that previously there were periods with shorter exemptions for land entry—but current regulations uniformly grant 60 days. It was also noted that there are currently no restrictions on the number of land border entries, which had been misinterpreted in the conversation.

same but if you do a border bounce by land there might be a requirement to stay for 2 days.

@Phil *****
there is no specific requirement but your re-entry is at the discretion of the IO so best not to just turnaround, unless you are with a visa agent group.

I KNOW SO TELL THE OP. Its well known Cambodia makes you sta 2 days unless your with a border bounce company. That's why the cost has increased ฿500.

Valid question as over past years this has changed a lot and often was only 15 days by land when it was 30 days by air ,but now it's the same 60 days by land or air ,but land can only do twice in a calendar year 🙏🏽
Thaimer ******
@Jason *****
that’s not a thing for years. Last 5 years minimum it was 30 days exemption regardless if you enter air, walk, train, boat, car

@Thaimer *****
it doesn't matter ,the person who posted the question might have been visiting Thailand for years and as soon many things change in visas ,he had a valid point to ask it 🙏🏽

@Jason *****
I just told you that over minimum past 5 years that didn’t change at all

8 years ago it was 15 days by land entry. You still see this on some websites just like you still see only 2 entries per calendar year. This all confuses ppl just like calling visa-exempt entry visa-on-arrival

@Jason *****
when and for what country it was 15 days by land? That's not true in most cases, 15 was ONLY for visa on arrival for some countries last few years.

It used to be only 15 days for everyone without a visa at land borders but that was at least 20 years ago.

It's true. The 15-days stamp for a visa-exempt entry across a land border, I remember was tested for a brief period in 2015 and 2016, but after only 9 months, they went back to the usual 30-days visa-exempt

some years back it went to 15:days by land and 30 by air ,as I lived in Cambodia for 14 yrs and I remember it well ,it happened a few times as it often changes ,not fantasy ,fact 😜

wrong about only twice by land in a Calendar year.
Jason ******
@James ********

@Jason *****

Apparently this is no longer a issue. It is unlimited until the Immigration-Officer you meet says no.

The website needs a update, but it is not an official site for anything related to the Thai Embassies around the world..

It is a website named Thai Embassy run by the lawfirm Siam Legal International.

No, they recently changed that.

It’s irrelevant how you enter country.

It’s always 60 days visa exemption ( not visa on arrival)

Same by air land or sea.
