TLDR : Answer Summary
The query pertains to the possibility of a German citizen leaving Thailand on a non-immigrant visa and returning to receive a 30-day visa exemption. The discussion clarifies that if one exits before the visa expires and re-enters, they can receive a 30-day visa exempt entry upon return, provided they do not purchase a new tourist visa beforehand. Furthermore, there are specific conditions regarding how many times one can utilize the visa exemption based on entry type (land or air).

sorry if i confused you

i just called it "upgrade", didnt know how to call it otherwise

yes exactly, i am on my original entry stamp with 90 days until 19.2. and planning to leave exactly on the 19.2. and come back 23.2.

@Thomas ******
you can get TWO 30 day visa exempt entries BY LAND in a calendar year. There is no official limit to them when entering by air.

yes and as stated on the website of the ministry of foreign affairs of germany i should be able to exit on exemption of visa twice a calendar year

updated on 14.02.

When you exit the country that entry stamp (that you got from the 90 day visa) will cancel and when you re-enter the country IF you didn't BUY a tourist visa from a thai consulate you would enter on a 30 day visa exempt entry.

there is no such thing as "upgrading" a single entry visa to a multi-entry one. All you did was buy a multi-entry permit which only lets you leave during that original 90 days it didn't add any days to your ability to stay here.

@Thomas ******
what a hard to understand thread :(

Okay IF you're on the original 90 day entry of a single entry ED visa you can stay the 90 days and then leave.

Either go to a thai consulate in another country and BUY a single entry tourist visa OR just bounce out and back in to get a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp.

*exemption of

you are on an extension of stay NOT a multi-entry ED visa you do NOT get ANY more time after the 22nd.

ORIGINAL POSTER
yes sure

so if i exit on 19.2. and enter again at 22.2., i can get an exemption if visa for 30 days, right?

ORIGINAL POSTER
yes

@Thomas ******
you're still on the original entry of a single entry ED visa that you got from a thai consulate in another country?

i dont have an extension yet.

on arrival i got 90 days with my ed visa

as these 90 days expire now i was thinking about getting an extension of stay, or leavinf the country and coming back with a tourist visa on arrival/exemption of visa

thanks Tod for the good clarifications.

@Thomas ******
it doesn't "expire" :/ That's just the date the extension runs out. It's NOT automatically canceled when you leave the country that day..
Tod *********
@Thomas ******
just because an extension based on education runs out it does NOT mean that you canceled it officially. You need to take a letter from your school saying you're stopping studying, go to the immigration office and cancel your current extension of stay. They will cancel it and stamp you in until the last day you're studying (as stated on the letter from your school)

You can go to the immigration office a week or so before that date to cancel the extension

@Thomas ******
Lets see what others reply. But I believe it needs to be CANCELLED by you and or school before you leave Thailand.
Thomas *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
even if it expires on 19.2. anyways?
James ********
@Thomas ******
also I believe you will need to CANCEL your EdVisa before you depart Thailand. To avoid future problems if you choose to apply for another Thai visa.

You are confusing the two. One is EdVisa other is exemption on arrival for 30 days as a German passport holder. Tourist visas are obtained outside Thailand.
