TLDR : Answer Summary
A user reported hearing about a change in the immigration rules reducing the extension period for the ED visa to 60 days. However, comments clarify that this situation may only pertain to extensions of stay rather than the visa itself. Some users mention that the 60-day extensions have been standard for a while, especially at certain language schools in Bangkok, while others clarify the distinction between visa and extension processes.

The ONLY schools I know of in Bangkok where students get 90 day extensions on ED visas for studying thai are the schools that have a "special arrangement" with the immigration office. ALL the 'real schools' <- the ones that MAKE students attend class, etc have been getting 60 day extensions for a LONG time now.

Okay, listen up;

Most "real schools" have had their students getting 60 day extensions on ED visa for a good while now.

There also were significant changes to the ED program too

The way that the MOE and the immigration office break the thai language program up in BANGKOK is like this:

You enroll, get the paperwork and go get an ED visa from a thai consulate in another country

-you enter and get a 90 day stamp

-you go and get ONE 30 day extension :O

-during that 30 days you're sent to the MOE and tested,

-you then can get TWO more extensions of 60 days

Then you're done with Basic and Intermediate levels of thai

You need to go get a NEW ED visa from a thai consulate for the advanced level.

I have to stop this, sorry but if you keep on using the incorrect terminology you only create a lot of confusion. And as we do this voluntarily i do not have the will to sit here all day to try to explain that you do not know the difference between a visa and an extension of stay and that there will be no rules change for other people using all kind of other visa's.

1.THERE IS NO CHANGE THAT UNDER NEW IMMIGRATION RULES ONLY 60 DAYS IS GIVEN ON ALL VISA'S

The person just mixed up an Extension of Stay from a Thai language school with a Visa.

EDIT: If you have important or high value advice you may contact the moderators or admins with a request to re-open this topic. Thanks for your understanding.

Everybody with a VISA, please do not panic or worry, this was all about an Extension of Stay from Immigration. Nothing to do with the VISA you have, or get at a Thai Consulate.

. OK I was suprised as my last extension was 90 days..

Now means I have to do a 60 day & a 30 day to finish the course ๐Ÿ™„

The Extension of Stay based on study, might be 60 days in Bangkok, but not new Immigration rules only 60 days on a VISA application or on a entry into Thailand.
Robert *******
NO, but where did you went in and collect a Non Immigrant ED visa?
Robert *******
I guess you already have a Single Entry Non Immigrant ED visa with a stamp USED on it and the plans is now going to the Immigration Office in Bangkok to apply for an Extension of Stay based on study at the language school?
Robert *******
you get a Visa at the Thai Immigration Office or at a Thai Consulate. Not at a school.
