TLDR : Answer Summary
After completing a 1-year language course on a student visa, attendees may not be able to retake the exact same course, but can enroll in a different program within the same field of study. Students can potentially extend their visa for up to three years by attending licensed language schools, provided they meet attendance requirements. Additionally, there are varying age limits for obtaining student visas, with some immigration offices applying different rules. It's important to directly consult your school and immigration for specific conditions.

Just be careful because if you do a language course for a lengthy period of time and you leave the country, Thai immigration will start quizzing you in Thai as you should know how to speak it after a few years that is how they busted all the Chinese that were there for like nine years on education bases, and did not know how to speak anything while back.

some licensed language schools you can attend for up to three years. However you have to physically attend the classes, as Immigration will do random checks. Why don't you ask your school, they will tell you

Why not they do with everything else.

Am I correct that student visas have an age cut off of 35 or is that not correct?

@Pete *********
some immigration offices have a 50 year old cut off because they believe you should be on a retirement visa at that point. But it's not everywhere.

@Brandon ***********
that's what I have read as well. Thank you. I'm 52 so just wanted to see if it was an option as I plan on taking a Thai language class anyways.

your school should know what their local immigration policy is

haven't gone that far in this process yet. Once I find a school I'll ask. I'll go over on the non O visa and have some time to establish residency first and move forward from there. I'll convert to Retiree or a student visa for thai language or muay thai depending on what's more cost effective and what makes the most sense for me. I've only spent a total of 45 days in thailand on two visits and have really only explored Bangkok, Pattaya and jomtien and a couple islands off of pattaya. I definitely want to see some other areas . I also went to Laos and enjoyed it there as well .

I haven't ruled out a relocation to there either.

if you go over on a non-O then converting to education will not be an option. The only option you will have is an extension based on the same reason of your visa.

what's the 90 day one ? Thought I could convert that ?
Brandon ************
@Pete *********
the non-O is a 90 day visa. The one you can convert is tourist visa. That gives you 60 days when you arrive and you can get one 30 day extension.

@Brandon ***********
ok well someone said before go on a 90 and convert to Retiree. Don't go on tourist visa. So many mixed messages. I'll just deal with embassy here. Thanks for the help
Brandon ************
@Pete *********
if you go on non-O there is no conversion, you are already on retirement. But you cannot convert from non-O to non-ED for education.

I'm sure if you pay the school fees and they can supply the visa/extentions then you'll be ok to re-take the course
Brandon ************
Probably not the exact same course, but you should be okay studying the same topic. 2 years is probably all you'll be able to get though without enrolling in a university
