I departed from Thailand yesterday.

They used the electronic scan in Bangkok airport. I noticed that no departure stamp on passport. Is this the new way. All electronic no physical stamp in passport.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Recently, travelers departing from Thailand have been noticing the absence of a departure stamp in their passports due to the introduction of electronic scanning systems at airports. Many users in the community have confirmed this observation, stating that they did not receive a departure stamp during their exit. This new system seems to be in effect at major airports like Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi and has not caused issues for re-entry into the country. However, it is noted that travelers still receive a physical entry stamp upon returning to Thailand. Overall, this transition to a more automated exit process appears to be accepted by those who have experienced it.

I hope they do eventually use modern tech rather than draconian methods, seems a hybrid right now; it all ends up in a database anyway. Governments don't like to deploy tech, without wasting vast sums, UK has so many failed projects with Oracle, and the US needs smart engineers to gut their fed system to purge 'poor' tech, manual systems. Not that surprising.

I left Thailand 2 nights ago, same thing - and tbh I didn't even think about it or notice it until I read this post!

With all the new immigration regulations and forms these days Iโ€™m surprised they donโ€™t add a swift kick in the arse on the way out too

Yes no exit stamp when I go last November, I ask to the immigration lady if ok, she said to me itโ€™s ok and when I re-enter by land 2 weeks later, no problem at all ๐Ÿ‘

Did the same last Sept. No worries.

you still have to stamp IN to the country with a hard stamp when you come back though ๐Ÿ™‚

@Tod ********
it might change for some visa in a few months with the new onlien system - or what u think?
Susan ********************
@Daniel ***********
I have an e-visa but still get an entry stamp with my exit date on it and "e-visa" handwritten. Maybe some day it will stop - but they love love love their stamps and signatures in Thailand ๐Ÿ˜
Brandon ************
@Daniel ***********
the only people it might change for this year are those without a visa. Visa exempt entries might go to auto gates at some point this year if they implement ETA

@Daniel ***********
doesn't matter what i think ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜›

we'll know how that works when they announce how it will work which I hope they will do before they roll out the program ๐Ÿ˜›

Americans can put a man on the moon but Thailand never seems to figure anything out once it's a thought. How many delays now.

They went to eDeparture gates for foreigners at Suvarnabhumi back on Dec 15th 2023 ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
Josh ********
I left there since then and got. Stamp but Iโ€™m a tourist not sure if relevant
Tod *********
@Josh *******
you either go thru the eDeparture gates and don't get a stamp OR you go thru the real "in person" departure booths where they stamp you out
Josh ********
Are all foreigners eligible for e departure would be nice to save passport space

@Tod ********
how does this work with a long term Visa and reentry permit?
Brandon ************
@Dan ***
the re-entry permit only matters when you enter. You don't need an exit stamp
Dan ****
@Brandon ***********
so then there's no risk of people accidentally cancelling the visa? I believe I've seen some people complain that their visa got cancelled on exit even with a reentry permit that was on a different page.
Brandon ************
@Dan ***
that doesn't even make sense. A re-entry permit is a re-entry permit. If it's on a different page just make sure the immigration officer is aware when you hand them your passport on re-entry. It's your responsibility to check your passport after you are stamped in to make sure it's correct.

@Brandon ***********
I thought they could accidentally stamp a big "cancelled" or nullify the visa in their system upon exit.

If they don't set a "can enter again" status upon exit, but rather check the permit upon entry, then it should be fine.

Just trying to understand what goes on. I see people with lots of random visa issues. ๐Ÿ˜…

@Dan ***
nope nothing like that, if you have a re-entry permit in the passport before you leave the country when you come back and go to stamp in HAND the passport to the officer with it OPEN on the page with the re-entry permit ๐Ÿ™‚
Dan ****
@Tod ********
thanks Tod!

@Dan ***
everyone goes through automated gates on exit now. If there was a problem you'd see a lot more Facebook posts about it.
