TLDR : Answer Summary
The claim of a 15-month visa in Thailand typically refers to a combination of a 30-day entry visa, followed by a 60-day extension, and culminating in a 12-month retirement visa extension. While this can be facilitated by an agent, many opinions suggest that individuals can navigate the process independently to avoid potential issues with visa legality and agent practices. Key considerations include having the required funds in a Thai bank account, compliance with visa regulations, and the risks associated with using agents for processing.

You can have a 12 month visa issued upto 3 months in advance ... therefore 15 months
THAI ******************************
Our team can handle everything for you when arriving on a Tourist visa, or Exempt Entry.
The total cost is ฿50,000, broken down as follows:
- ฿13,000 for bank account opening
- ฿23,000 for a 3-month Non-O visa
- ฿14,000 for the 1-year extension
However, if you apply for the Non-O visa from your home country and arrive in Thailand with it already in hand, you might be able to open a bank account yourself and skip the first row listed costs.
We also offer a expedited service where we do everything in one day for you all through Chaengwattana immigration.
For Bangkok we offer door to door services, and if you are outside of bangkok, and already have a bank account we can service you by secure post.

I had a 1 year visa many years ago, and it was good for 15 months. I don't remember exactly why, but the process just worked out that way.

Apply online for a 3-month visa and then get your 12-month retirement visa when you get there 🙂 and if you get your 3-month visa visa before you go, it will save you money :)

Have the restrictions on bank accounts been relaxed? My friend tried to get retirement visa last month but agents in Pattaya couldn’t open bank account to meet the visa requirements. I read on this forum that some agents had announced that they couldn’t open accounts .
I dont understand this fixation and recommendations to use Agents..
The process is quite simple and you can get the correct advice at an immigration office..
In the past when Immigration has cracked-down on agents for various "activities" outside the real rules; then the Visa holder /customer is held liable if you have the wrong visa or it was obtained by "questionable" means.!! Your Visa is your responsibility, please check with immigration direct.
Immigrations are now stating (per card in my passport) money has to be in bank for 2 months before and 3 months after application. I reckon this is to stop agents putting money in. Same way they stopped agents doing 90 day reporting on-line- now only in person. Probably next thing is to stop agents doing driving tests by requiring passport to be shown when test is taken. I have never had a problem getting my visa based on monthly income.
Exactly agree... Weve been here 36 years..and been thru many rounds of changes by immigration and other rules... Technically for driving test you must go personally - so agents are "circumventing" the rules.. With immigration whats the problem going to do it by ourrselves... It is Easy...!! So many people do not realise that Agents are there to get paid... but actually there services are not required or they are doing something wrong...which in the end the customer will be penalised for...
My friend visiting from Poland wanted to extrnd his Visa on Arrival. Yesterday he went to Immigration and it was completed in 10 minutes. He received a 30 day extension for 1,900- baht.. His first experience at Immigration. He said it was easy. and No agent.

This may be a stupid question but can he 800,000 be put in an interest baring account. like a 12 cd or equivalent. I ravel myself on tourist visas and if I need to change that I will go to the Embassy for advice.
you don't understand?? How is that possible? Does leaving 800k baht in a thai bank account at zero or ultra low interest make any financial sense at all? The answer is no. Leave the 800k invested elsewhere. At merely 5% it generate 40k baht annually, which pays the 15 k renewal fee and puts another 25k in your pocket while you let the agent do the work for you. Just as it has been done for many years
What you do is up to you! Isnt it! Dont force your ideas on others.! Weve never had a problem in 30+ years dealing direct with Immigration. And have seen many times people have problems with 'agents'. Thats how its possible.🙄
yes it is up to me. So why are you trying to force your silly idea on everyone here. If you love standing in line every year at government offices, that’s great. Some will do anything they are told.
Not having a problem in 30 years is hardly unusual. A chimpanzee can do it themselves. But they are making chimpanzee style financial decisions. But judging by the many discussions here, many more people have problems with immigration than reputable agencies don’t they?

Your first retirement visa yes
Michael ******
Yeah, they market them as 15 month because they bring you in on a 60 day, then do the paperwork for the real visa, extend 30, then move to the year long visa.
more than one way to skin a cat Brother. Im sure they do the 90 day non into retirement visa you mentioned. I also know they do the exempt, extension, into 1 year visa, as I did it. 😂 Unless you are saying that over the last year everything changed and now visa agents with 15 month offers only work with people that meet the retirement age. In which case I suppose my information is out dated and they are horrible at buisness. Unlikely.
no you didn’t do it. There is no ‘extension’ possible for 60 day visa exempt past the 30 day extension. You can only extend a visa. Not a visa exemption. It’s the way it’s been for over 20 years
oh yeah I see where you are confused now. You misread my original comment. 60 day. + extension, then a 12 month ed visa. Not extend exemption for 12 months. That would just be silly. Why you went through all this trouble to look like a fool instead of minding your buisness is a mystery.
lol. Happy you figured it out now you absolutely daft w ⚓️😂😂😂😂 you don’t know your head from your ass about visas. Floyd isn’t looking for an Ed visa lol.
figured out what you were confused about? Aww he struggles with reading as well. Poor thing. Dont mention it champ. Songkran is the time we help out our senior citizens after all. 🤠
while its been a while since I have been on an ED visa, I do appreciate you calling me cute 🥺. Unfortunately I am very straight Todd, sorry 😬. But hey, if you can go a night without your depends or a dementia episode Im sure you can find what you are looking for down in the Silom area. Wish you the best 🙏
uhh, Todd I think you are confused. Telling me what I did and then being blatantly wrong is wild my man. You are welcome to think whatever you like I guess. 😂
Shame, I thought the 51st staters would be more clever. Instead they just repeat what you just said, apparently can't read, and their ego crumbles like a child when they are wrong. Mate, you could have just said "oops, that makes sense". Now look at us, both looking dumb arguing on the internet because old Todds extra fragile. 😆
Depends on the location. In Pattaya they get the entire 15 months all at once. But that makes it super obvious next year if you try to do it yourself that you used an agent, because that's impossible normally.
I’ve never used an Agent, I did the application, bank documentation documents, etc., myself. Most Agents are paying off the Immigration Officer and many of them are Immigration Officers.
No, I had a minimum of 65,000 TB transferred to my Bangkok Bank Account from my U.S. Bank each month starting 14 months before I arrived there and each month while there for 2 years.
multiple entry has no relevance to the length of time the non o is valid. It's 90 days plus year extension only on your first one. Like just about everyone on here has mentioned. Multiple, single or no entry makes no difference at all
The multiple Non O is valid one year. comming back one day bevore expire you get another 3 Month. so 14 Month and 29 days. You must leave the country every 90 days.
There is no multiple entry non-O visa. There is a 90 day single entry non-O visa and a 1-year extension. The last embassy that offered multiple entry for non-O visas was only for marriage, not for retirement, and they stopped on January 1st when all embassies worldwide switched to e-visa.
90 days plus 1 year = 15 months.. I got the same !

Using an agent to get the bank account opened and process the immigration documentation correctly can be helpful first time around.
Beware! It is best to have your own funds ad required for the visa you are requesting. If the agent funds the account it is not legal and you will not meet the qualifications for renewal next year.

Does anyone know of a agent that speaks English that I could contact for my visas that would be best for me planning to visit in May and come back to Thailand in September to stay thank you in advance
from personal experience I can highly recommend Thitsana at Baan Immigration in Bangkok. She had all the right answers and did everything correctly and the legal way and without fuss.
currently most countries are given 60 visa exempt on arrival, just watch the posts as possibly will reduce to 30 days. What country passport do you hold? I see you have already asked this question in another group and been given alot of information. You need to apply for tourist visa online, not with an agent
I’m a US citizen my plans are to move to Thailand in September but there’s been changes on visas at least that’s what I’ve been told I don’t need any drama so trying to get it done right
do you think I'm too stupid to know that the 800k that wasn't in my account before seeing my agent was magically put there by pixies??MY AGENT keep up Todd is 7000bht , still with me Todd? FOR R-E-N-E-W-A-L WITH THEM PAYING THE 800K.
yes, i do think so. But let's go with your explanation. Which agent are you using and i can reach out to them and get a quote. 7k is a great deal with them looking after everything. That would be awesome. Thanks
Double M tours, Soi Baukhao Pattaya. They've done everything for me from the first visa and open account to my renewal. All with them posting the 800k and they do my 90 report free of charge too. I can't speak highly enough of them 👍
when was the last time you converted from tourist to retirement including adding a bank account? Because it's expensive now. And even more so over the last month

When you first land you'll get a 30-day visa, then the agent can get you a 60-day extension and then after that you get a 12-month extension. That can all be done on the same day with the help of the agent so your first retirement Visa has a total of 15 months. Yes you can do it yourself but many people choose to go with an agent because there are so many different versions of paperwork that you will need and all the different areas Within immigration office have to be visited. You are paying for their expertise and their experience just like you would if you paid a lawyer or an accountant. You are paying for their experience
When you first land you'll get 60 days visa exempt, not 30. And it's not a visa, it's visa exempt.
Then you'll get converted to a 90 day non-O visa, not an extension. And also a 12 month extension at the same time because that's how agents do it. So 15 months all at once.
OMG his reply may be a candidate for the most wrong ever!

I think 3 month visa O + 1 year extension (all included)
Brandon ************
No, it's not possible. Because it's not a 15 month visa. It's a 3 month visa and then a 12-month extension.
The conditions are that you give the agent a lot of money and they get you the visa and extension. And if you don't have your own money in a Thai bank account for this visa, then you'll have to pay an agent again next year because you won't meet the requirements this year and they'll check on that next year.
Simon *******
It is only 15 months the first year ,12 months when renewed.
But you still have a void stay in Thailand even if your personal benefits it’s more important than to fulfil the requirements for a legal stay in a country you choose to live.
Jonathan ******
I’m not arguing. I understand how they do it but they’re offering it as a 15 month visa and basically it is but it’s really not. you already get two months free then you get a 30 day extension that’s 90 days which is three months and then they get you 12 months so if somebody’s offering us 15 months, it’s the same bullshit either way 15 months and 15 months whether it’s 3+12 they’re not giving you anything extra that’s for sure you’re not getting a bonus three monthsI’m on your side Brandon
if you paid 50,000 THB for your initial 3-months Non-Imm-O visa and the subsequent 12-months Extension of the Stay Permit, to an agent, because you don't want to use own funds in a Thai bank account, you paid way too much. There are adverts in this group from a "visa-agent" offering this service for 37,000 THB
for the application to the Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa - AND for the 1-year Retirement Extension, you have the choice of showing either a minimum of 800,000 THB in your bank account, or a proof of a monthly income of a minimum of 65,000 THB. For the application to the E-VISA in your home country, the money can be in your home bank account. For the application to the 1-year Extension, the money needs to be in your Thai bank account
a big 100 THB, sorry, my mistake 🤣🤣🥳. You could have added a multiple entry stamp to it for a significant 3000-3500 THB. In fact, it is so cheap that I don’t recall the exact cost 😊
single re-entry is 1000.- THB, a multi re-entry is 3800.- THB. At the Airport if you haven't any prepared forms and pictures, you will need to add 200.- THB to these fees. Why I take a notice? I got my own visa advice group, I just can't allow myself to hand out incorrect information 😊
sure, my mistake, I will let the pros give advise as I’ll take care of extending my own with a multiple entry as I travel a lot. Sorry again for misinforming your followers on your FB group. Regards.
you don't "extend my visa". A visa cannot get extended. The visa you used to achieve the "extended stay permit" has become invalid already. Immigration just extends a stay permit. The stamp you receive in your passport clearly states that you got a stay permit and not a visa. A 1-year stay permit based on reason "Retirement" . . . and for this stay permit, you can buy a "re-entry permit". This re-entry permit has a validity for use until the expiry date of your extended stay permit
and if there's ever a shakeup in immigration (new boss trying to impress their boss) you might find yourself in the country illegally and liable for a large overstay fine. But your choice.
until that agent is made an example of and every visa with their initials comes under scrutiny. Very unlikely but still possible. Why not just follow the rules and do it in your own?
you should look deeper into it. Although i wouldn’t do it myself, the agent facilitates a temporary loan on paper. Financially it makes sense to keep the 800 in investment rather than rotting in a thai bank account.
Never heard of a shakedowns of this method as technically its legal. But there’s no guarantee, things can change. As they tend to do in Thailand
technically it is illegal. Maybe not for the agent, but for the immigrant who doesn't meet the qualifications for seasoning and minimum balance requirements thereby technically invalidating the extension. Unlikely, but not zero risk.
if you don't value this wonderful opportunity and can't afford to pay these meager 24,000 US Dollars into your Thai bank account, you shouldn't be in Thailand
where does the law say it cannot be a loan? As long balance is shown?
As I said, I wouldn’t do it myself. But never heard anyone gotten in trouble for it. But personally I avoid agents, as I have allot of time on my hands.
The part that says for a retirement extension that it must be in the account for 2 months prior to the application then for three months after the extension and never drop below 400k for the rest of the year.
"Financially it makes sense to keep the 800 in investment rather than rotting in a thai bank account." . . . . . you seem to belong to those expats who are supporting corruption in Thailand. And you seem to forget that the 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account actually earn a very good harvest: They are the "parking fee" that enables you to live in a country on half the monetary expenses you would have to pay in your home country
You could also go to your Thai bank account to withdraw your 800,000 Thai baht and it won't be there ty banks are crooked just like everything else. Once they have your 800,000 in there you're owned. They can charge you all kinds of fees and scam you basically and it's not insured so if you lose it nothing you can do you're going to be kicked out of the country with no visa. I know several people that's ended up in the IDC for this same reason. It's not the same as putting it in a US account or a UK account where it's insured.
Yeah I haven't heard of it either and I've been there a long time but I have heard of bank managers helping themself to foreigners bank accounts on several different occasions That's just the ones they caught and they did go to prison. I don't think they're discriminatory though I think they're going after thais just as much. If not more.
