TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses experiences with the five-year retirement visa in Thailand, specifically the OX visa, which is obtained from the Thai embassy in the applicant's home country. Some comment that agents are not necessary for obtaining this visa, as it can be done independently. Additionally, one comment highlights the increasing fees charged by agents, while another details the Long-Term Resident (LTR) retirement visa that provides a 5+5 year option without using an agent.

Not sure which visa you are looking at. I just did an LTR retirement visa (5+5 years) from my home country, no agents involved. It required a lot of paperwork to be submitted, but really not very difficult. It took less than a month to get the approval and then I got an eVisa from my home country (USA) embassy.

Agents today are charging 50% more than they did last year. Ridiculous. Shop around.

The only 5 year retirement visa is the OX visa. You obtain this from the Thai embassy in your home country. Nothing an agent can do to help you.
