We arrived 25 February on the "Test & Go'" program which gives us until 26 March. We want to extend by 15 days. The Thailand Embassy has no current info on this topic. Does anyone here know if that is possible and how? We are not in Bangkok so we can't go to the embassy now.

TLDR : Answer Summary
After arriving in Thailand on the 'Test & Go' program, which allows a stay until 26 March, you can extend your stay by an additional 30 days. The process involves going to an immigration office (not necessary to visit the embassy), where you'll need to pay a fee of 1,900 baht. Necessary documents include a passport-sized photo, copies of your passport's main page and stamped page, your departure card, and some additional paperwork. Make sure to check with local immigration for the most current procedures.

Where can I go for immigration in Bangkok at the moment? I looked up on google maps and it's temporarily closed, in the review one said that they don't do it, other nearby places rather have bad and not a lot of reviews. Thank you

if in Bangkok you either go to Muang Thong Thani or Chaeng Wattana dependent upon what visa or exemption you arrived on. Once you know which it is then search the group to see which office you go to. And no, you didn't arrive on a Thai Pass.

thank you. I noted that down and will do it immediately once i get back to Bangkok. This is my first time out of the country to all the difference between visas and what are expected are still ambiguous to me. Your comment about i didn't arrive on a thaipass suggest that i arrived with an automatic visa underneath is helpful I think.

@Nguyễn *******
if you have a full page sticker in your passport you arrived on a tourist visa, if not and just a stamp then you arrived on a visa exemption

Let's start with what passport do you have.

@Nguyễn *******
you must have some kind of passport

You arrived visa exempt 30 days? You go to immigration for 30 day extension 1900 baht. Need passport size photo, copies of passport main page and stamped page, your departure card, fill out some paperwork..
Zap **********
I explained in my first comment believe you can get a 30 day extension at immigration

We are Canadian arrived visa exempt and were able to get 30 day extension. It's with your passport and other paperwork. Look up the immigration office in your area, go see them or call to find out. This all is not to do with Thailand pass...two separate things. Thailand pass is needed to enter country but once in Thailand it is not what is extended. It's a stamp in your passport with a new date you need from immigration office if eligible.

Thailand Pass has nothing to do with what you are asking everyone needs a Thailand Pass Thai or foreign currently to enter Thailand

the employees were so irresponsible and inattentive. The guy who told me to get the letter just said that and left to do his stuffs, don't even bother to explain what more do i need or write down on a piece of paper what kind of letter he asked for.

so what can I do to extend my stay if I want to stay more? Apply for a visa now or I can only leave and enter with different method like a visa run? Sorry I'm uninformed with what's the difference between visa and pass

the Thailand Pass just means you satisfied the covid-related requirements for entering. The visa is what says why you’re coming (tourism, education, marriage, etc.), and how long you can stay — like a tourist visa for 60 days, for example. But Thailand also has specific exemptions for citizens from various countries that basically let you come in for thirty days without any visa at all.

In your case, it sounds like you did the paperwork for the Thailand Pass, but didn’t also apply for a specific visa, so you got in with a 30-day exemption. If so, you can probably get a 30-day extension at the immigration office. Assuming your exemption and extension follow the same rules that folks from the US get, Michelle’s comment above gives the basic info, and the information desk at immigration will have most of the paperwork you need. For passport photos, there are lots of places around town with signs on the window advertising passport photos, so just pick one with decent reviews on Google maps. You’re also going to need a printout of form TM 30 — wherever you’re staying needs to submit your info online and give you a printout to bring to immigration (If you’re staying at a hotel, they’ll know what to do. A private Airbnb might need to do some registration stuff in the system first.) And you’ll need copies of your passport page that has your photo on it, the passport page with the stamp for your current visa/exemption (i.e., the age with the stamp that says you can stay until the 26th), and a copy of your TM 6 — that’s the little “departure card” they would have given you when you first entered Thailand. They may have stapled it into your passport for you.

The extension costs 1900 baht, cash only.

I hope that helps! Visa extensions/exemptions/renewals/whatevers were super-confusing and stressful for me at first, but the officers are really helpful and patient.

it's just so frustrating with this process.. they don't bother to explain anything and just ask me to go back in town to get a letter from Vietnam embassy, which never occured to me that I need it. I went to the official website of Thailand Embassy and they only list what you wrote here for me.

And then you have to fill out three forms once you get there. Wasted 2 hours waiting and the time to get there, it's 24km from town ! 😠 No wonder the location got so much negative reviews

@Nguyễn *******
oh man, that sucks. It sounds like the exemption rules must be different for Vietnam than they are for the US, unless the officer thought you were applying for something different?

Can you get what you need from Vietnam’s embassy?

the letter was about "due to covid this person can't leave the country etc." Which is bullsh*t because the website made it clear that no letter needed. Btw today is the last day that they do this extension until further notice. We were very close

@Nguyễn *******
I was wondering if that was happening. The "covid extension" ordinarily comes after the 30-day extension that I was thinking you'd have gotten after your exemption. It sounds like either the exemption for travelers from Vietnam is different from what Americans get, or they were giving you the wrong extension (which, to be fair, would give you 60 days instead of just 30 for the same price, so it's super-generous if you can pull it off).

The letter from the consulate/embassy seems to be something some officers insist on and most officers don't. Like, fear of travel due to covid, not actual border issues, has been enough. But it sounds like either they're tightening things up, or you wound up with an unusually strict officer. I'm glad it all worked out in the end!

i finally had to come back yesterday to get my letter the next day which they charged me 720 baht for it. Then hour and hour of waiting at the immigration from morning until 4pm.

They stamped my visa for 2 months even tho i only asked for 1. The whole waiting line is just a mess..

But it's done now. Thank you all so much.
