Is it necessary to bring luggage on a border run in Thailand if I'm worried about being refused re-entry?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires whether to take luggage on a border run to avoid being refused entry back into Thailand, expressing concerns as a first-time traveler for this purpose. Community responses indicate that it's generally safe for first-time border runners, with many suggesting a small bag suffices. Some advise on alternatives like visa run agencies or extensions for ease, while others caution about specific border locations.

Just extend, far easier.

But first time border run you would be extremely unlikely to have problems

That's a personal decision based upon risk adversity, for me a small bag does for a week if you have a passport and money you have no worries.

Why should you be refused entry?

And why dont you want 30 days extension?

curious as to why this should be avoided. Is that only for border runs? I've only ever crossed here once in a Giant Ibis bus en route from Bangkok to Siem Reap for a 16-day stay, but then flew back.

It's had a reputation for years for being trouble, i.e. not being allowed in, or in the same day, just not worth the risk, go to a friendlier border

interesting. My intention is not to do a border run, but to use it specifically to cross the border en route from one destination to the other (on Giant Ibis). I'm only using the Thailand visa for 60 days before moving onwards, no real desire to stay here for any extended length of time.

Depends where you leave the country at. Some of the Laos borders have been making people stay out for 2 days. If you use a visa run agency you won't have to stay out. If you fly out, you'll be fine too.

I did a run in December, it was cheaper to fly round trip to HKN than it was to take a van to Laos. might want to take a look right now at your options.
