Has anyone obtained a visa to visit China. I have a UK passport and my Google research makes me believe it's a difficult process.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The visa application process to visit China for UK passport holders appears to be manageable according to recent community experiences. Many have found it straightforward, though detailed attention to requirements is essential, and there may be long wait times for appointments. Several users shared their positive experiences pre- and post-COVID, with some even obtaining 10-year multiple entry visas.

Agree with the posts above. It's a straightforward list of requirements for a tourist visa, but requires attention to detail and the wait for an appointment is a hassle. Still very doable though, and know a few people who have sailed through the process in the last few months and managed to get 10 year multi entry visas out of it.

Thank you for your advice and experience. I just realised my passport only has a couple of pages left, so I need to renew. I will definitely go, but not anytime soon.
Thanks again.

Pre covid when I lived in Singapore it was so easy; they even asked if I would prefer ten year multiple entry so that i could keep visiting.

Yes. Pre Covid from the consulate/visa office in Phuket. Wasn’t particularly difficult then. No idea if things have changed post Covid.
